A man has died following a collision between a car and a lorry.

West Mercia Police said it happened between the junction with Cheltenham Road and Aston Summerville near Evesham, Worcestershire at about 09:45.

The collision involved a Silver Nissan Qashqai car and a white Mercedes car transporter lorry.

A man in his 50s was pronounced dead at the scene and his next of kin have been informed, the force said.

The lorry driver was unhurt.

The road has been closed and is expected to remain so for a number of hours while investigations take place, the force said.

It urged anyone who saw the crash, or either vehicle beforehand, to come forward.

The contest comes after Conservative MP Owen Paterson resigned after breaching Parliamentary rules.

A man from the Midlands who helped rescue a caver who was injured on the Brecon Beacons said it was "extraordinary".

The man was lifted to the surface on a stretcher after two days and is now said to be doing well.

Mike Clayton from the Midlands Cave Rescue Association said the accident had happened in a "complex" area.

He went into the cave at 03:00 on Sunday to help moving the man, which he said was a "very slow process".

"Cavers rescue cavers," he said

"If it ever happened to us we hope there would be others to come to our aid."

Emma Porter from the association helped manage volunteers.

Wolverhampton Council admits its special education provision is not "at the point we want to be".

Darrell Meekcom, who has a terminal illness, says he was shocked to be detained for the offence.

The song, featuring Ringo Starr and George Harrison, was found at the home of writer Suresh Joshi.

A 15-year-old girl was kicked and punched before her bag was urinated on in a Shropshire park, police said.

Three teenagers, two boys aged 11 and 14 and a 13-year-old girl, from the Donnington area, have been interviewed over the incident, West Mercia Police said.

It happened at Norbroom Park in Newport on 3 November.

Sgt Rich Jones said “This was a horrible and unprovoked attack on a young lady who was doing nothing more than spending time at a local public park with friends when she was attacked by members of a group already at the location."

Anyone with information has been urged to come forward.

More than 3,000 charge points for electric vehicles will be added in Birmingham.

The council says the project may contribute to around 50% of a potential reduction in emissions locally, from cars and vans.

It has now agreed a strategy, and said go towards meeting the net zero target from the authority for nine years' time.

Councillor Waseem Zaffar said: "To reduce then eliminate transport emissions it is necessary to both reduce vehicle usage and ownership and shift the remaining vehicles to vehicles without emissions.

"So, I welcome this long-term strategy which has been modelled to future-proof the council’s transport and environmental needs."

Firefighters were called to assist after a lorry left the road in Herefordshire.

Posting on Facebook, Kingsland Fire Station said its crews, and crews from Kington Fire Station, were called to Rhyse Lane in Kington on Thursday evening.

No one was injured in the incident, it said.

England Hockey has been accused of "institutional and structural bias" by a club that appealed successfully against a 12-month suspended ban for breaching a code of conduct.

The governing body was found to have broken its own rules when investigating Barford Tigers Hockey Club over complaints by two other clubs.

Gurmej Pawar, the chairman of the Birmingham-based club, has written to England Hockey accusing it of a "shocking abuse of power" after an appeal panel quashed the sanctions.

In a statement, England Hockey chief executive Nick Pink said: "It has become clear that there were shortcomings in the initial process, and we at England Hockey are saddened and disappointed by this and recognise that the process needs to be reviewed and changed."

The group supplied drugs between Wolverhampton and Stoke-on-Trent.

M&S will be housed on the lower two floors of the shopping centre's former flagship shop, with entertainment venue TOCA Social set to occupy the top floor.

The "football entertainment venue" idea led to questions on the BBC Midlands Facebook page and Mary Mulligan posted she is intrigued and "imagining a club or a payment to get into different auditoriums to see different football matches".

While Clare Palmer wondered if the phrase was "code for ‘man crèche'".

TOCA Social said it would "combine immersive football-based games" with American dining.

However not everyone thought the changes were the right move including Sarah Evans-Pearce who wrote it "should be wine bars, entertainment centre, ice skating, fun machines, sport tables".

A main road in Worcestershire is closed in both directions following a "serious collision", Highways England said.

The A46 is closed between the A435 at Evesham and the A4184 for Teddington Hands in Gloucestershire.

Emergency services are at the scene, Highways England added.

The proposals include 5,000 homes and a school, as well as a new hotel and restaurants.

The candidate standing for Reform UK in North Shropshire has launched her campaign.

A by-election, caused by the resignation of Tory MP Owen Paterson, will take place on 16 December.

The contest follows findings that Mr Paterson, a former cabinet minister, broke Parliamentary rules on lobbying.

Labour, the Liberal Democrats and the Green Party have also said they intend to field candidates.

Reform UK's Kirsty Walmsley launched her bid in Oswestry yesterday.

Ms Walmsley said: "So often with what is considered a safe seat like this to the Conservative party they parachute somebody in who is not local and I really feel strongly that the people of North Shropshire deserve someone who knows the area and understands it and will stick up for the people here."

Two baby geladas have been born on the same day to different mothers at Dudley Zoo.

The attraction said mother Tana gave birth to her second boy in the early hours of 15 October, and Addis later welcomed her first girl, surprising keepers who discovered them both during breakfast.

Native to Ethiopia, geladas are also known as bleeding heart baboons due to the bare patch of red skin on their chests and live at higher altitude than any other primate species.

Jodie Dryden, from the zoo, said: “We knew both females were pregnant, but were not expecting the babies to arrive on the same day.

Keepers have named the male, Kaleb, while the female is Zala.

“Perhaps it’s because there are two of them and they’re causing mischief together, but we’ve never seen babies as confident and wanting to play with their other siblings like this pair," Ms Dryden added.

The zoo now has 14 geladas.
