Network Rail engineers are on site to repair damage to the line between Castle Cary and Westbury, after a freight train derailed last night.
Trains are not able to call at stations at Frome or Bruton. Great Western Railway (GWR) said the area will be affected for at least 48 hours. This is to allow for track inspections and repairs.
GWR added journeys may take an extra 30 minutes due to diversions.
It advised passengers travelling to Pewsey to change at Swindon for road transport.
Remember the story of little Oskar Pyecroft ? The Bristol City super fan has cerebral palsy.
In 2015, fans of the club and rivals Bristol Rovers helped raise £57,000 to pay for Oskar's surgery and help him to walk again.
Look at him now, a few months on from the surgery.
On Monday he walked just over a mile to school.

One of the main railway lines through Somerset is blocked today after a freight train derailed last night. The line is expected to remain closed for at least the rest of today.
Great Western Railway (GWR) said the train came off the line at the East Somerset Junction between Castle Cary and Westbury. No services will run along this line. Services to Frome and Bruton are also affected.
Network Rail said it's working closely with GWR and South West Trains to put contingency plans in place - these include diverting services between London and the West via Bristol.
A diversion of around 30 minutes is currently in place but passengers are being asked to check their service before leaving.
The freight train was carrying stone and ballast. No-one was injured but there was significant damage to track and equipment.
We'll keep you up-to-date on Local Live with any developments.
