The train derailed between Westbury and Castle Cary and is causing delays to services.

One of the main railway lines through Somerset is blocked today after a freight train derailed last night. The line is expected to remain closed for at least the rest of today.

Great Western Railway (GWR) said the train came off the line at the East Somerset Junction between Castle Cary and Westbury. No services will run along this line. Services to Frome and Bruton are also affected.

Network Rail said it's working closely with GWR and South West Trains to put contingency plans in place - these include diverting services between London and the West via Bristol.

A diversion of around 30 minutes is currently in place but passengers are being asked to check their service before leaving.

The freight train was carrying stone and ballast. No-one was injured but there was significant damage to track and equipment.

We'll keep you up-to-date on Local Live with any developments.
