    Watch: Saint Lull created the town of Bad Hersfeld after studying at Malmesbury Abbey

    The flame has been lit, the bratwurst is ready for eating and Lullusfest is under way in Germany.

    It's a big celebration held every year in the town of Bad Hersfeld to honour a monk who came from Malmesbury Abbey to try and establish the Christian Church in Germany.

    Not much is known of him here in Wiltshire, but in Germany around half a million people celebrate the Malmesbury Monk each year.

    The M5 northbound has fully reopened after emergency resurfacing work took place this afternoon.

    Three lanes were closed to fix a 200m section of road surface at Tickenham Hill between junctions 20 (Clevedon) and 19 (Portishead).

  8. Man assaulted at taxi rank in Salisburypublished at 19:04 British Summer Time 17 October 2017

    Police are appealing for witnesses after an assault took place at a taxi rank in the area of New Canal, Salisbury, in the early hours of Sunday.

    A 27-year-old man sustained injuries to his face while being assaulted by a group of men between 3.45am and 4am.

    Four men, aged between 21 and 28, have been arrested on suspicion of GBH and have been released under investigation.

    Police would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at this time, including taxi drivers.

    Concorde Alpha Foxtrot in the Filton Museum

    The new Aerospace Bristol museum - home to the last Concorde to fly - opened to the public earlier.

    Concorde Alpha Foxtrot made her final flight into Filton in 2003.

    In total 20 planes were built and all of them flew, but only the last 16 flew commercially.

    The museum's purpose-built hangar tells the story of design and manufacturing over the past 100 years of the aerospace industry in the West.

  10. 'Nationally significant' portrait of King Henry VII on showpublished at 18:16 British Summer Time 17 October 2017

    Painting unpacked at Museum of Somerset

    An artwork of "outstanding national significance" can be viewed in Somerset for the next three months.

    The painting of King Henry VII is on loan from the National Portrait Gallery and is the the earliest portrait in their collection.

    It was painted in 1505 by an unknown artist from the Netherlands and is believed to be the first life painting of an English monarch.

    It goes on show from today at the Museum of Somerset in Taunton.

  12. Man assaulted outside Cheltenham clubpublished at 17:12 British Summer Time 17 October 2017

    Police line

    A man has been left with a fractured cheekbone following an assault outside a club in Cheltenham at the weekend.

    The assault took place near Under the Prom nightclub at around 1:45am on Sunday 1st October.

    The offender - described as a white male with short hair and wearing jeans, a t-shirt and trainers - left the club with three Asian males.

    The victim, aged 24, was punched from behind and sustained a fractured cheekbone, loss of sensation to the left side of his face and a black eye.

    Police are treating the incident as an unprovoked attack.

  16. Cricket: Middlesex lose appeal - Somerset safepublished at 15:17 British Summer Time 17 October 2017

    Middlesex have failed in their appeal against a two-point deduction in the County Championship, confirming their relegation from Division One.

    The punishment came for their slow over rate during August's match at Surrey, which was abandoned when a crossbow bolt was fired into The Oval.

    Middlesex finished one point below Somerset, who were ready to take legal action if the appeal was successful.

    Middlesex, county champions in 2016, will play in Division Two next season.

    Wiltshire councillors are voting today on whether they should get a pay rise.

    An independent panel has recommended they get a 1% rise, meaning the basic allowance for a councillor would be around £13,0000 a year.
