    Police hunting suspects in connection with an anti-social behaviour (ASB) issue have released a sketch drawn by a five-year-old.

    An officer was called out on Tuesday night and was given the drawing by the young girl "to help" officers in their investigations.

    Swindon North Police tweeted the "blonde lady on the right is mum phoning the police," but "if you are one of these individuals we are on to you!".

    The Reverend Emma Ineson, principal of Trinity College in Bristol, has been announced as the new Bishop of Penrith.

    She will take up her post just before Easter.

    The Right Reverend Lee Rayfield, Bishop of Swindon and acting diocesan bishop, said: "Emma will bring a wealth of experience to episcopal ministry from the range of settings in which she has ministered over the past 18 years.

    "Her time at the helm of the theological college has been hugely fruitful during a testing season for such institutions and we shall be very sorry to see her leave."

    Dr Ineson said: "I look forward to being involved in diocesan leadership and rural mission in a beautiful part of the country."

  4. Knitted garden 'brings the outside in'published at 14:39 British Summer Time 9 May 2018

    The world's first life-sized knitted garden will be on show at the Malvern Spring Festival over the next few days.

    It's been designed and largely created by Gloucester widow, Clare Young, in memory of her husband Ken, who died of cancer at Leckhampton Court Hospice, in Gloucestershire.

    The display is of a knitted hospice bed overflowing with knitted flowers and plants. Ms Young said it's so she could bring the outside in to him when he was ill.

  5. Woman killed in crashpublished at 14:03 British Summer Time 9 May 2018

    A woman in her 70s has died in a crash involving two cars on the A420 at Tubney, Oxfordshire, on Sunday afternoon.

    The woman, from Swindon, was a passenger in a grey Peugeot 3008. She died at the scene.

    The drivers of the Peugeot and a silver Skoda Octavia were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

    Police are keen to speak to anyone who saw the collision or has dashcam footage of the crash.

    People in Bristol are being asked to take part in a project to track baby starlings around the city.

    Numbers of the birds have been declining over the last few years so the RSPB wants to find out what's happening to baby birds after they leave the nest.

    Vivien Hartwell is leading the project, and says they'll be giving people tracking equipment for their gardens or to travel with around the city.

    Edible water spheres are being doled out to runners at the Chippenham Half Marathon for the first time, later this year.

    Made from seaweed, the hi-tech water capsules will replace plastic bottles given out at the race on 9 September.

    Committee member Sarah Ellis, said she had "always been shocked" by the amount of plastic waste at the race's water stations.

    "We have seen a change in running races over the last few years, where organisers are looking to be eco-friendly with biodegradable cups, but water spheres take this to a whole new level," she said."It is quite risky because people are stuck in their ways but to pioneer change, we have to set an example."

    A website set up to help homeowners make money from their spare space is disrupting Bath's housing supply and leaving tenants fearing they will lose their homes, it's claimed.

    Councillors say the Airbnb site is another "nail in the coffin" for the city's housing crisis as landlords can make significantly more from short-term lets.

    Fiona Wilde has lived in her flat for seven years but says the apartment above is now rented out on the site.

    She says she fears she will be kicked out, and is urging Bath and North East Somerset Council to introduce legislation to limit stays.

    Ms Wilde told the planning, housing and economic development committee that London had introduced a limit of 90 days in any given year that a property can be used as an Airbnb.

    Councillor Bob Goodman, the council's cabinet member for development and neighbourhood, said the authority is already looking at the issue but added: "I'm told we that legally we cannot enforce the 90-day limit."

    It was suggested an event be set up bring together hoteliers, business owners, supporters of Airnbnb and other interested groups to understand the complexity of the issue

    A search is under way for a missing man who is believed to be in the West Bay area.

    Kevin Norminton, 43, of Crewkerne, Somerset, was last seen on Tuesday morning when he left his home in his silver Ford Focus.

    The number of people reporting hate crime in Avon and Somerset has shot up by nearly 50 percent in the last three years.

    Figures from Avon and Somerset Police show racially and religiously aggravated hate crime rose to more than 17,500 last year.

    But while the number of people being charged with those offences largely fell around England - in the Avon & Somerset force area it went up from just 15 in 2015 to 200 people last year.

    In Gloucestershire the number of hate crimes reported has more than doubled despite a reduction in the level of people charged.

    358 racial and religious hate crimes were reported in the county during 2017 - up from 147 in 2013 - but only 48 of those crimes led to prosecution.

    In Wiltshire the number of hate crimes reported rose from 235 in 2013 to 438 in 2017.

    A man has been taken to hospital with a leg injury after an accident in Cheltenham.

    The collision happened on Swindon Road between Richards Road and Kingsditch Lane.

    Traffic was heavy but the road is now open.

    A mother from Pewsey, Wiltshire, who has not seen her daughters for three years, is appealing for help to get them back from Libya.

    Tanya Borg's daughters, aged 18 and six, were abducted by their father Mohammed El Zubaidy and taken to the war-torn country on the pretext of a holiday to Tunisia.

    Since then her son has been returned and her husband is in prison for not complying with a court order to return all her children.

    She's been speaking to her MP, the foreign office and an organisation which specialises in similar situations, but says she feels helpless.

    A toddler has survived falling out of a moving car with only minor injuries.

    The child fell out of the vehicle while strapped into a car seat as it was travelling on the A4174 near the Asda roundabout in Longwell Green.

    A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Constabulary said: "We had reports of a child exiting a vehicle whilst moving.

    "The child doesn't have any serious injuries but was taken to hospital as a precaution.

    "Our enquiries are currently ongoing.”

    The incident happened at 2.20pm on Tuesday.

    Councils in the West still need to spend millions of pounds until 2030 to wipe out the debt of Avon County Council - 22 years after it was disbanded.

    Avon's legacy was a £172m debt to be repaid by four unitary authorities: Bristol City Council, North Somerset Council, South Gloucestershire Council and Bath and North East Somerset Council.

    • Bristol City Council took the largest proportion, 37.51%, or £62.6m in 1996 - there is £25m remaining to be paid off
    • South Gloucestershire Council took a 23.76% share worth £39.7m - £16.9m is outstanding
    • North Somerset Council's 20.24% was worth £33.8m - there is £14m to go
    • B&NES Council took the smallest share, 18.49%, worth £30.8m. - £12.9m is left to pay off.

    Last year, each council paid at least £500,000 from their shrinking budgets to repay debts created to secure loans for projects such as building new schools, roads, homes and libraries.
