North Somerset Council is to plough ahead with the planning process for a new rail link between Portishead and Bristol, despite a huge financial shortfall.

The authority still needs £50m to deliver what's known as "metrowest phase 1" which includes the reopening of the Portishead to Bristol line.

A report to North Somerset Council's ruling executive tomorrow is recommending to press ahead with the planning process, despite the lack of funding.

The project was dealt a blow earlier this year when it was turned down for extra government funding.

The hope is to get funding from the regional West of England metro mayor.

Emergency departments in Gloucestershire are well prepared to cope with an increase in demand during the winter months, NHS bosses have said.

That's despite the county's hospitals failing to meet target waiting times - of seeing 95% of patients within four hours - for the past four years.

Health agencies have come together to put together a winter plan - to help ease pressure on Gloucestershire Royal and Cheltenham General.

It includes extra GP appointments in the evenings and weekends and encouraging people to use pharmacists and Minor Injuries Units.

Three missing people have been reunited with their families in time for Christmas after their faces were displayed on posters on the backpacks of Deliveroo riders.

Five hundred of the food delivery app's riders will sport mobile billboards in Bristol, London, Manchester and Birmingham from today, as part of a campaign with charity Missing People.

A trial across the four cities has already yielded results, with three out of the four people featured being found safe and well.

The full roll-out of the "Ride to Find" campaign will see riders display posters featuring a total of eight - two in each city - missing people on the bags used to carry food.
