  1. Fire service issues warning after chip pan blazepublished at 12:40

    Two Cambridgeshire fire crews were called to a house in Beech Close in Huntingdon last night, external after a chip pan fire. 

    The occupants had safely evacuated before the crews arrived.

    A CCTV image of two men Cambridgeshire police, external want to talk to in connection of a serious assault in a Cambridge nightclub has been released.

    A 20-year-old man was headbutted in Lola Lo, in Corn Exchange Street, in the early hours of 11 December. 

    He was left with serious facial injuries. 

  3. Woman robbed on own driveway in 'unprovoked and cowardly attack'published at 12:00

    A woman has been left with facial injuries after being robbed on her own driveway in Eaton Ford, St Neots at 22:30 on Tuesday. 

    A male attacker punched her in the face and continued to punch her as she lay on the floor. He then stole her handbag. 

    Det Con Karin Peters from Cambridgeshire Police said: "This was an unprovoked and cowardly attack, which has left its victim injured and badly shaken."

    A couple who run a bed and breakfast in Cambridge, which has been ranked as the fifth-best in the world, say they are "amazed" to receive the accolade.

    Sayle House, external, in Chesterton Hall Crescent, run by Brian and Lesley Corbett, was also ranked second in the UK by review website TripAdvisor. 

    Mr Corbett said as they had only been running for less than two years, it was a huge accolade.

    A man is due at Cambridge Magistrates' Court this morning charged with causing death by dangerous driving. 

    It's in connection with a collision on the B1043 near Silton, external at 07:00 on Wednesday when a man died.

    A Jurassic "sea monster" found in Cambridgeshire could prove to be a new species of plesiosaur, experts believe.

    Oxford archaeologists, external discovered the 165 million-year-old bones at Must Farm quarry near Whittlesey.

    Described as "a fantastic fossil" and named "Eve", she is being studied by palaeontologists at Oxford University's Museum of Natural History.

    Kenneth Martin's Construction in Aluminium sculpture in Cambridge has been recently recognised and protected by Historic England, external.

    The sculpture, which stands outside the university's Department of Engineering in Trumpington Street, is one of 41 sculptures in the country to be awarded Grade II-listed status.

    The piece, the "visual representation of the mathematical formula of jet propulsion" is said to "capture the mood of post-war public feeling".

    It's been a busy 24 hours for Peterborough United who have added two players to their squad and are set to sign a third later today.

    Both defender Harry Toffolo (pictured), who's signed on loan from Norwich City, and midfielder Adil Nabi, signed from West Brom for an undisclosed fee, could make their debuts against Gillingham in League One tomorrow.

    It's been announced that development firm Bride Hall Developments will build the new Fletton Quays Development, external in Peterborough.

    The go-ahead for the regeneration project was given in December and includes 280 new homes, 14,000 sq m of office space and a hotel on the riverside plot.  

    Bride Hall will build a new 9,000 sq ft office with an ancilliary car park - it will include the refurbishment of a Grade II-listed train shed, which is the proposed location for the council's new offices.

  10. Peterborough gets government cash to tackle rogue landlordspublished at 09:03

    Peterborough City Council, external is to receive just over £112,000 from the government to tackle rogue landlords.

    It's one of 48 councils to receive a share of £5m from the government to help ensure tenants are staying in clean and safe properties that are fit for purpose.

  11. Recorded violent crime rises in Cambridgeshirepublished at 08:49

    Recorded violent crime, including sexual assaults, has more than doubled in the county over the past four years, according to data.

    Figures out in May 2013 show there were 13 recorded violent crimes, including sexual assaults, in Cambridge.

    In November 2015 that figure jumped to 195, a 1,400% increase, while St Neots saw an 88% rise over the same period.

  12. County council questions NHS trusts over failed older people's health contractpublished at 08:38

    Continuing the Uniting Care contract for Older People's Services in Cambridgeshire, external would have cost £9m a year.

    That figure was revealed yesterday when officials from Cambridgeshire County Council, external questioned the chief executives of two NHS trusts about the collapse of the failed £800m contract.

    Unting Care had been commissioned to run health services for older people in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough but the service collapsed last month after less than a year. It has been made clear the contract will not be put back out for tender.
