A man has been charged with the theft of a hanging basket from outside a house in Peterborough.

Cambridgeshire Police said the 42-year-old was arrested in Princes Street.

He has been bailed to appear at Peterborough Magistrates' Court next month.

The charity which employs 500 people said the lockdown has caused a loss of £8m a year.

Hot meals are being delivered to vulnerable people who are unable to attend their usual day centre.

Money has been given to Over Day Centre, so it can feed people in Over and Cottenham, Cambridgeshire.

It has been made possible because of a grant of £10,000 from developers, Countryside to South Cambridgeshire District Council.

So far nearly 100 two course meals have been made.

A second food scheme is being set up from a hub in Duxford, with meals being prepared by the C3 Church in Cambridge.

Peterborough Cathedral will reopen its doors for private prayer and reflection daily from Monday between 10:00 and 13:00.

New measures have been put in place to keep people safe.

Access to the nave only will be allowed. Visitors are asked to stay for no more than 15 minutes, to use hand sanitiser on entry and exit and to keep to social distancing rules.

The café, shop and toilets will remain closed.

The Dean of Peterborough, the Very Reverend Chris Dalliston, said: "We are excited to be able to welcome people through our doors once again, albeit in this new and somewhat unfamiliar way.

"I hope that people will find it comforting to return to their cathedral and reflect on what continues to be a very challenging time."

A double-decker bus has been branded in honour of Bedfordshire war veteran and NHS fundraiser Captain Tom Moore.

The Stagecoach East bus features a life-size picture of the 100-year-old inside, as well as his motto "tomorrow will be a good day". Externally, there is an advert promoting the Captain Tom Foundation.

The bus will initially be based in Bedford, close to Capt Tom's home village of Marston Moretaine, but it will later go into service at depots in Peterborough and Cambridge.

Capt Tom raised more than £30m for NHS charities by walking laps of his garden and will receive a knighthood following a special nomination from prime minister Boris Johnson.

She is able to spend time with them again after forming a "support bubble" with her daughter.

Bedfordshire attractions Whipsnade Zoo and Woburn Safari Park have reopened.

Whipsnade, external has set a limit of 3,000 people per day.

Woburn is open for car drive-through visits only and the park's website, external said it had sold-out for 15-21 June, but would be reviewing ticket availability on a "daily basis".

Cambridge beat Oxford to win the first virtual Boat Race, with both teams competing on rowing machines at home.

Each team of eight collectively rowed 6.8km to raise money for Cambridge-based sport inclusion charity Power2Inspire, external.

The annual Boat Race between the university rivals was due to take place on the River Thames in London on 29 March, but the event was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Three-time Olympic champion Pete Reed, who was paralysed from the chest down after a spinal stroke in 2019, competed for Oxford.

Reed was joined by Paralympic champion Grace Clough and world champion Oliver Cook, while Olympic champion Tom Ransley was part of the Cambridge team.

Anyone travelling on public transport in England must wear a face covering from Monday.

More than 3,000 extra staff, including police officers, are on duty at bus and railway stations across the country to make sure people comply.

Passengers without a covering will be asked to wear one. If they refuse, they may not be allowed on board or they could be fined £100.

People with certain health conditions, disabled people and children under the age of 11 will be exempt from the rule.
