Spitfire returns home after weather halts fly-past planspublished at 11:12 British Summer Time 16 September 2020
A Spitfire which was due to fly over hospitals in Yorkshire to say thank you for NHS staff's efforts during the coronavirus pandemic has had to return to base because of poor weather.
The blue Spitfire, which has "THANK U NHS" written underneath its wings, was due to tour hospitals across the UK raising money for NHS charities.
However, the company behind the project says due to low cloud and poor visibility it was forced to return to its Duxford Airfield base in Cambridgeshire.
Funds for the NHS are being raised by the plane's owners, offering the chance for people to nominate the name of a loved one which will then be handwritten onto the aircraft.
