    A keen scout who loves being outdoors has been camping out in his garden for the past month to raise funds for NHS Charities Together, external.

    James Davies, 13, from Epping in Essex, hoped to raise £50 when he set up his tent on 1 April, but has so far been donated more than £900.

    The Year Eight pupil, who also cooks his lunch outside, said he has been "overwhelmed by people’s generosity".

    Mum Karen, who says goodnight to him out of the bathroom window every evening, said: "To camp for a whole week would be quite tough, so what he is doing is amazing - I am really proud of James."

    A mother and son have spent the past two weekends raising over £2,000 for the NHS and St Helena Hospice, external in Colchester by staging a live disco from their lounge.

    They played requests for people on Mersea Island who chipped in with the cash as Kate Dawson and her DJ son Peter Breedin, also known as DJ Pete, kept the music going.

    "Kate has also run the Mersea Island Judo Club, external for the past 25 years and I am immensely proud of them both," said her brother Patrick Dawson.

    The latest figures for the number of Covid-19 deaths each day in NHS hospitals in the East of England have been released by the government, external.

    The total number of deaths at the region's hospitals is now 2,888.

    There were 58 deaths in yesterday's figures, which was the same number of deaths as the previous day:

    • Fryatt Hospital, Harwich (non-NHS): 3
    • Basildon and Thurrock: 3
    • Bedford Hospital: 2
    • Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust: 7
    • Cambridge University Hospitals, inc Addenbrooke's: 3
    • East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust: 4
    • East Suffolk and North Essex (Ipswich and Colchester): 6
    • Kettering General: 4
    • Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust: 2
    • Milton Keynes University Hospital: 1
    • Norfolk and Norwich: 3
    • North West Anglia, Peterborough and Hinchingbrooke: 2
    • Northampton General: 4
    • Southend Hospital: 3
    • Princess Alexandra, Harlow: 2
    • West Hertfordshire Hospitals: 7
    • West Suffolk, Bury St Edmunds: 2

    The total number of Covid-19 related deaths across the UK is 29,427.

    Forget wearing the usual scrubs made from blue or raspberry coloured fabric - NHS workers at one hospital are rocking some new threads.

    A number of scrubs have been donated from sewing groups and individuals from across Cambridgeshire, Essex and Hertfordshire, to staff at Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge.

    The outfits, ranging from Thomas the Tank Engine to exotic plant patterns, have been a "real hit with staff", a spokesman said.

    "We’re so grateful to everyone who has made them for our teams - they’ve made a huge difference and helped to keep us smiling," he said.
