    We told you earlier that more recycling centres would be reopening this morning for the first time in eight weeks.

    In Essex, this was the queue waiting for Southend’s Stock Road centre to open its gates at 07:00.

    A new campaign is asking people to continue their efforts to reduce the spread of Covid-19.

    The Stick With It Suffolk message from the Suffolk Resilience Forum, external - which includes the county's NHS, emergency and public services - explains that while recent data from the Local Government Association, external shows case figures in Suffolk compare favourably with the national average, "we're not out of the woods yet".

    It is urging people to keep washing their hands, try to stay at home and keep two metres apart from people outside your household.

    The county council's director of public health, Stuart Keeble, said: "The number of cases can very easily increase if we take our eye off the ball. This would be a backward step, with strict lockdown measures coming back into force."

    People are being asked to share how they are managing to stick with it, using the hashtag #StickWithItSuffolk on social media.

    Efforts to get more commuters safely back to work by train are coming into force today following the easing of the coronavirus lockdown restrictions.

    More services will be running than at any time since lockdown began, but rail companies are planning to limit the number of people boarding trains, and some seats may be blocked off. Security guards are also in place at several stations.

    East Midlands Railway, external has warned that the new timetable will only allow a "small rise" in the numbers it can accommodate and Avanti West Coast , externalsaid it would not allow carriages to be more than a third full.

    The London North Eastern Railway , externalis also asking passengers to help to keep services clear for those who need them most.

    People are still being advised to use public transport only if it's essential and they have no alternative.

    Emma Watson, from Network Rail, said: "We have done the calculations and analysis to ensure that we can have a certain amount of people on the concourse at any one time and yes, there will be closures to entrance and exits should those numbers increase and grow."

    The latest numbers of Covid-19-related deaths in care homes, notified to the Care Quality Commission have been released by the government, external.

    They include deaths within the care sector which happened up to 1 May and were registered up to 9 May.

  5. Luton's Vauxhall plant reopens todaypublished at 08:43 British Summer Time 18 May 2020

    The Vauxhall van plant in Luton is resuming production today using a third of its 1,600 workforce.

    Managing director Stephen Norman said it needed new orders to justify ramping up production any further and was calling for showrooms to open as soon as possible.

    Most of the new Vivaro vans produced at Luton are likely to be exported to Europe, where some showrooms have reopened.

    Vauxhall said it expected to add a second shift within weeks, but it would take much longer to get back to full capacity when it can produce 100,000 vehicles a year.

    The company's Ellesmere Port car plant in Cheshire remains closed.

    Eighteen of the 24 recycling centres in Essex and all the centres in Northamptonshire are reopening today after the coronavirus lockdown rules were eased.

    Essex County Council , externalsaid there'll be a one-in, one-out system at its 15 sites and social distancing measures will be in place.

    Southend Borough Council , externalis extending the opening times at the two tips it runs and Thurrock Council , externalsays only five cars will be allowed into its site at any one time with access via Linford only - with a stretch of Buckingham Hill Road closed during the day for the next month.

    The nine sites in Northamptonshire will open at 10:00 but the county council, external is urging people to only visit them if absolutely necessary after long queues built up in other parts of the region last week.

    Councillor Jason Smithers said police would be monitoring how busy the surrounding roads are.

    The car park at Dunstable Downs is reopening today but the National Trust has said that "for a time your visit may be different from what you remember".

    It says the car park will be at 50% capacity and, if it's oversubscribed and visitors have to drive away, they should check updates on the Trust's website, external before planning future visits.

    The visitor centre, excluding toilets, and Chute Wood will remain closed.

    The latest daily figures for the number of Covid-19 deaths in hospitals in the East of England were released by the government, external on Sunday.

    In the BBC East region, statistics for each NHS hospital trust show a rise of 12 deaths.

    The figure reflects the number of deaths reported since the last figures and not the number of deaths in the past 24 hours.

    • Anglian Community Enterprise, Clacton Hospital: 1
    • Colchester and Ipswich: 1
    • North West Anglia, Peterborough and Hinchingbrooke: 2
    • Northampton General: 2
    • West Hertfordshire Hospitals: 5
    • West Suffolk: 1

    The total number of deaths at the region's hospitals is 3,290.

    The total number of Covid-19 deaths across the whole UK is 34,636.
