    Businesses in Northamptonshire are being sent support packs to help them reopen safely during the coronavirus pandemic.

    Just over £80,000 of European Union funding has been given to Conservative-controlled South Northamptonshire Council and its support packs include social distancing posters and floor decals that are being delivered to high street businesses.

    Councillor Dermot Bambridge, portfolio holder for environmental services, said: "It is understandable that the prospect of reopening with new safety measures in place may cause some concern."

    Businesses which reopen will not be inspected automatically, but the government requires them to display a poster at their entrance confirming they have read and implemented the guidance.

    The company that runs Wicksteed Park, external has gone into administration, with the loss of more than 100 full and part-time jobs.

    The park in Kettering - founded in 1921 - claims to be the oldest theme park on the UK mainland.

    News of its demise has prompted outpourings on social media, with local vicar and BBC Radio 4 broadcaster Rev Richard Coles calling it a "sad, sad day".
