The owner of a tanning salon has called for her business to be treated in the same way as retail shops as non-essential businesses begin to reopen.

Ceri Hayes, of The Tan Boutique, external in Chelmsford in Essex, said that unlike other personal care services such as hairdressers and barbers, her staff do not need to physically touch clients.

"We put in a detailed risk assessment, we put in place all the social distance guidelines as per the HSE [Health and Safety Executive] website and Chelmsford City Council were happy with all this," she said.

But the salon cannot resume business because the government has not officially named tanning salons as being businesses that can reopen.

A spokesman for Chelmsford City Council said: "The council has no discretion in the application of the regulations.

"The classification that tanning salons are beauty salons and cannot currently open is being applied consistently across Essex."

A double-decker bus has been branded in honour of Bedfordshire war veteran and NHS fundraiser Captain Tom Moore.

The Stagecoach East bus features a life-size picture of the 100-year-old inside, as well as his motto "tomorrow will be a good day". Externally, there is an advert promoting the Captain Tom Foundation.

The bus will initially be based in Bedford, close to Capt Tom's home village of Marston Moretaine, but it will later go into service at depots in Peterborough and Cambridge.

Capt Tom raised more than £30m for NHS charities by walking laps of his garden and will receive a knighthood following a special nomination from prime minister Boris Johnson.

A man has died after a the car he was driving collided with the central reservation on the M25.

It happened between junctions 28 and 27, near Theydon Bois in Essex, at about 20:10 BST on Tuesday.

The driver died at the scene and the road was closed.

Essex Police said that a passenger in the car suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the police on 101.

Police have released a photograph of a key ring that was found with the body of an unidentified dead man.

He was found in undergrowth off Bray Drive in Great Ashby, Stevenage, on 26 May, but despite extensive inquiries and forensic tests, detectives have been unable to establish who he was.

The key ring is heart-shaped with diamante stones on one half and the word "Guess" on the other.

Hertfordshire Police had previously released images of clothing similar to those found on the body, which they said may have been there for a "considerable period of time".

Det Sgt Lisa Turner said: "We now estimate that he was likely aged between 20 and 60 years old, was of slim build and had some facial hair.

"He was someone's son, and someone's friend. He may also have been someone’s father, brother, husband or uncle. Someone out there will be missing him."

Police Community Support Officer Dean Redhead said: "Not only is this having a detrimental effect on the trees, plants and animals on the common, but it has the potential to be very dangerous if the fire spreads out of control.

"The deliberate setting of fires in an open space is classed as arson."
