  2. Plans for new Wasps training centre revealedpublished at 12:00 British Summer Time 2 June 2016

    Wasps have revealed plans, external for a "world class" new training centre in Coventry.

    The facility would be built on land next to the Alan Higgs Centre in Allard Way.

    The plans include three pitches, an indoor "kicking barn", gymnasium, video analysis suite, hydrotherapy recovery area and physiotherapy rooms.   

    A planning application, external has been submitted to Coventry City Council. 

  3. Queen's Award for Coventry fundraiserspublished at 11:45 British Summer Time 2 June 2016

    Sikh Union Coventry has been given the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Services. 

    The award, created in 2002, is given to volunteer groups across the UK to recognise outstanding work done in their own communities.

    Sikh Union Coventry, external manages projects which support children and adults through team sports and health improvement, working with charities to raise funds for various projects.

  4. Heart monitors to help research into cardiac disease in apespublished at 11:30 British Summer Time 2 June 2016

    Apes have been given ECG machines to help researchers monitor heart disease in the animals.

    George Eliot Hospital in Nuneaton has passed 14 devices on to Twycross Zoo to support studies.

    The zoo, in Atherstone, will use them for research into the cardiac health of endangered chimpanzees, orangutans, gorillas and bonobos. 

    A spokeswoman said great apes shared more than 90% of their DNA with humans and had the same cardiac system.

    The BBC has learnt that almost half a million calls to the police 101 number in the Midlands have gone 'unanswered' in the last four years. 

    The figures for the non-emergency helpline were revealed as part of a Freedom of Information request.

    There are big differences between forces with four times as many calls being missed in Staffordshire compared to Warwickshire. 

    Staffordshire Police says it's investing in new call handlers to improve the service.
