    Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG), an engineering research and development unit based at the University of Warwick, is looking to increase its workforce by 30%.

    It is planning to take on an extra 170 staff, including engineers, researchers, project managers, data analysts, software developers, and technicians.

    WMG currently has over 500 people working across seven dedicated research and education centres, on the Warwick campus, and in seven other countries - it has an annual progbudget of £180m.

    Jaguar Land Rover saw a huge jump in sales last month, as people looked to buy cars before changes to car tax come into force.

    The Jaguar brand saw more than 9,500 vehicles registered in March, up 4,000 on the same month in 2016.

    Aston Martin, based in Gaydon, say their figures rose by 128%. 

    And nationally, March was a record month for new car sales, with more than half a million new vehicles registered.

  3. Woman sexually assaulted in Nuneatonpublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 5 April 2017

    A woman was sexually assaulted in Nuneaton last night by two men who fled on bikes, police say. 

    They say the attack happened at the Pool Bank Recreation Ground on Pool Bank Street between 21:00 and 23:30.

    Police say the investigation is in its early stages but appealed for anyone with information to get in touch.

    Coventry Paralympian Kare Adenegan (pictured below right) is to be honoured with a top national award later.

    The 16-year-old, who won a silver medal for Great Britain in the Rio Paralympic games, will be awarded up the Young Citizen Wheelchair Sport award.

    She's the second fastest wheelchair athlete in the UK, behind Coventry Godiva's Hannah Cockroft.

    Warwickshire batsman Chris Woakes has been named as one of Wisden's five Cricketers of the Year .

    It's a prestigious accolade for the all-rounder, who has also starred for England over the past 12 months. 

    Also on the list, which has been published this morning, are Ben Duckett, Toby Roland-Jones and the Pakistan duo of Younus Khan and captain Misbah-ul-Haq.

    Workers at BMW's Hams Hall engine plant will walk out later this month.

    BMW workers at the car giant's Hams Hall engine plant are set to strike over pensions.

    Members of the Unite union have voted to stage a series of eight-hour 24 hour strikes in a dispute over pensions. 

    The first will be at the car maker's facility in Coleshill, the Mini plant in Oxford and a site in Swindon on the 19th.  

    In a statement, BMW says it is "disappointed" by the decision.

    The Unite Union has announced that workers at BMW are to stage a series of eight 24-hour strikes in a dispute over pensions.

    Last week , workers at the car giant's engine plant at Hams Hall, Coleshill, voted in favour of industrial action. 

    It follows the announcement by the German car company that it was planning to stop their final salary pension scheme

    A Coventry city fan who missed the club's recent Wembley victory due to the birth of his baby has named the girl after the players who scored.

    Sky Blues fan Steve Wileman was meant to be at Wembley to see the Checkatrade Final but had to stay at home when it became clear his partner would be delivering a new family member that day.

    To celebrate the win, the baby girl has been named Georgia-Gael Maggie Nunzetta Wileman, after goal scorers Gael Bigiriman and George Thomas.

    Thank goodness they didn't win 5-0.

    A woman has been cut free from wreckage after a three-car crash this morning, the fire service say.

    Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service say the collision happened on the A4189 in Claverdon at 07:50 this morning.

    The woman needed treatment by the ambulance service, but the extent of her injuries is not known.

  14. Loan needed to keep Coventry museums afloatpublished at 09:26 British Summer Time 5 April 2017

    The trust running the museums in Coventry say they need a short-term loan from the city council to cope with financial pressures. 

    They've asked the council for the money and also to defer a repayment used to fund the renovation of the Old Grammar School and the extension to the Transport Museum.

    David Cockcroft from the city council said the new loan makes sense.
