    A man's been jailed for his part in a crash between two bikes in which another man died, external.

    Staffordshire Police says Philip Gray, 37, from Oldbury, died after the crash on the A5 in Fazeley near Tamworth in November 2015.

    Steven Porton was found guilty of dangerous driving earlier this month.

    Today the 29-year-old from Windrush Close, Walsall was jailed at Stafford Crown Court for 12 months and banned from driving for three-and-a-half years.

    Coventry City have made their third signing of the off-season - defender Rod McDonald has agreed a two-year deal from Northampton.

    The 25 year old will complete his move to the Sky Blues when his current contract ends at the beginning of July.

    He joins midfielder Michael Doyle and striker Mark McNulty as new faces in Mark Robins' team looking for promotion back to League One.

    Three men have been jailed after being found guilty of gang-raping a woman one of them met outside a Coventry casino.

    Defendents Calin Lacatus, 28, of Beake Avenue, Coventry; Constantin Vila, also 28, of Victory Road, Coventry; and Timotei Baran, 21, of no fixed abode, were sentenced at Warwick Crown Court today to ten, eight and nine years in prison respectively.

    The court heard how the victim accepted a lift home from Lacatus after visiting the Grosvenor Casino at the Ricoh Arena.

    She was joined in the vehicle by the other two attackers and then driven around the city, being sexually assaulted by the men before being driven to a location and raped.

    Figures obtained by the BBC reveal more than half of West Midlands Police officers haven't had up-to-date background checks to ensure they are suitable to serve.

    They show that 3,702 of the force's 6,325 officers haven't been vetted under current policy which aims to help prevent corruption by checking the background of officers.

    Ch Supt Mark Payne said: "All officers and staff are subject to rigorous and intrusive vetting before being allowed to join.

    "These figures relate to re-vetting - which is done periodically in line with local policy. We are working hard to reduce backlogs in this process."

  15. Man charged with driving offences after 'failure to stop for police'published at 14:26 British Summer Time 19 May 2017

    A Coventry man has been charged with a string of driving offences under Warwickshire Police's arm of Operation Trivium.

    The 22 year old was pulled over on Woodway Lane having, police said, failed to stop during an operation in Stratford-upon-Avon.

    Operation Trivium is a week-long operation across the country - aimed at stopping people using the road network to commit crime.

    An electric taxi, manufactured in Coventry, is to be rolled-out across the UK following its official launch.

    The Dynamo Taxi, created by ADV Manufacturing in conjunction with Nissan, was unveiled at an industry exhibition this week and is expected to go on sale in the autumn.

    Brendan O’Toole, chairman at Dynamo Taxi, said: “We’re at the start of the biggest change in the motoring world since the era of Henry Ford because most of us will be driving electric vehicles in the future."

    Two people have been arrested in connection with a robbery on Leyes Lane in Kenilworth, police say, external.

    A 29-year-old man from Leamington Spa was arrested on suspicion of robbery yesterday and remains in custody.

    A 22-year-old woman, also from the town, was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods and has been released under investigation.
