Plans to create extra secondary school places in Coventry at a cost of £26m are being drawn up by the city council.
A report said it was necessary to meet future demand, with an extra 240 Year Seven places potentially created by September 2019.
The proposal will go before the council's cabinet for discussion early next year.
The council has already secured £13.84m from the government and is expecting to receive further allocations.

Drugs believed to be heroin and crack cocaine have been seized after a raid on a house in Stratford-upon-Avon, police said.
A 46-year-old women, men aged 35 and 53 and a 16-year-old boy were all arrested on suspicion of possession of drugs with intent to supply after the raid on a property in Masons Way on Thursday.
All four have been released under investigation, said Warwickshire Police.
A blade concealed in a walking stick, a machete and zombie knives have all been handed in at police stations across Warwickshire, during an initiative to help tackle knife crime.
A total of 157 knives were surrendered during the week-long amnesty, said Warwickshire Police. , external
Knife surrender bins were placed at four stations across the county from 18 September.

Those studying forensic investigation at the university will also be involved in the exercise.

Coventry City Council hopes to make an estimated £675,000 by selling off derelict, overgrown and surplus land for development.
A list of eight sites have been identified for disposal, most to be sold at auction or direct sale with prior planning consent to make purchases more attractive, a council meeting has heard.
Some of the sites, which the council says are subject to fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour, have been identified as suitable for housing developments.
A Minor Land Disposals report was brought to cabinet on Tuesday with sites to be sold including the former Afro Caribbean Youth Centre in the city centre.

Coventry City Council is spending almost £17,000 on an "economic engagement" visit to China, in a bid to win hundreds of millions of pounds of investment for the city.
Six representatives will be sent on the five-day trip on 13 October to build trade links, meet with potential investors and promote the city, it said.
The group will visit Shanghai, Jinan, Guangzhou, Nanjing and Beijing, meeting automotive firms Geely, Guangzhou Automotic, Shangai Auto City and EV100.
Andy Williams, head of economic development, told a meeting, external the country's investment's were currently "very significant" in the area, and further investment could be in the "upper hundreds of millions".
