    Day two of the Shrovetide football game in Ashbourne awaits, and the deadlock was broken yesterday when the ball was goaled by Up'Ard Gary Radcliffe.

    He told BBC Radio Derby it was a very special moment.

    "I can't even describe it. It's something I've wanted to do from a very young age and I can't believe it's actually happened.

    "My uncle scored a goal in 1989 at Sturston, (the Up'Ards traditional goal) so yes that's two generations of us."

    But first a quick reflection on yesterday's action ... am I being cynical to suggest that if "every moment matters" how did this school bus find itself hemmed in by thousands of people in Ashbourne town centre yesterday?

    Zabir Ahmed and his wife missed their flight and were unable to take their belated honeymoon

    Mr Ahmed said he lost up to £1,900.  

    Greater Manchester Police said Mr Ahmed was released without charge, but did not say why he was detained.

    A Derbyshire man claims he was targeted by airport security because he's a Muslim.

    Zabir Ahmed, from Kirk Langley, was travelling from Manchester to Morocco with his pregnant wife when he was asked to leave the plane, external to be questioned under the Terrorism Act.

    He claims it's the 20th time it's happened in two years, and says he and his wife are being discriminated against.

    Alfreton Town's Derbyshire Senior Cup semi-final tie at Gresley FC has been rearranged for Tuesday 16 February, with a 19:45 kick-off.

    The tie was postponed last night, external because the Moat Ground pitch was waterlogged.

    So junior doctors in England are staging a second 24-hour strike over pay and conditions.

    NHS England said it's doing "everything possible" to minimise the impact, but thousands of routine operations, appointments and tests have been postponed.

    A flood protection scheme to reduce flooding risks for around 2,250 properties has received £2m from the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership.

    It'll benefit riverside areas near the Alfreton Road Industrial Estate, West Bank, Darley Abbey, North Riverside, the Pride Park business park, Chaddesden, Alvaston and the former Celanese site in Spondon.

    Nigel Clough says he expects more goals from his Burton Albion midfield going in to the final stages of their League One promotion push.

    Both Mark Duffy and Tom Naylor scored in last weekend's 3-1 win against Bradford, and 13 of the Brewers' 40 goals have come from midfield this season.

    A man is due to appear before Chesterfield magistrates today charged with criminal damage in connection with graffiti being sprayed on two horses, a car, a bus shelter, a wall and on play equipment in Unstone.

    The 26 year old, from Dronfield, has been charged with 12 counts of damage between Saturday 24 October and the following day.

    Derby County's owner Mel Morris has asked fans to "bear with him" following the departure of Paul Clement, and revealed he lost his job because he drifted away from the plan that had been agreed for the club.

    Clement was dismissed on Monday after just eight months in charge.

    Morris claims the results were never the priority for him this season, and a difference of priorities with Clement forced him to act.

    An accident on the M1 northbound is causing disruption between J27 for the A608 and J28 for the A38 to Alfreton.

    The planned start date for work to replace three junctions on the A38 in Derby has been delayed. 

    Highways England says it won't now be able to confirm the final route until December, and work won't start until 2020.

    The agency had said previously it was aiming to start in 2019.

  16. Hospital's advice to ease pressure on A&Epublished at 08:57

    At the Royal Derby Hospital they're asking patients to think before they come to the accident and emergency department today, as junior doctors are striking again over a contract dispute with the government.

    The executive medical director at Derby NHS Trust Dr Nigel Sturrock said: "We feel for those patients who we've had to cancel and we give a firm commitment that we'll be in touch with them in the next couple of weeks, if we haven't already, to give them a rescheduled date so that we treat them as quickly as possible.

    A number of operations and outpatient appointments at the Royal Derby Hospital have been cancelled today because of national strike action by junior doctors, over new contracts.

    Picket lines will be manned outside the hospital from 08:30 this morning.
