    She's bowled the maidens over ... 14-year-old Burton schoolgirl Lucy Yates has become the first junior female to play for Derbyshire women's senior cricket team.

    Two planning schemes for this picturesque site in Ashover have been turned down.

    An appeal over 26 new homes in the village is to be considered by a planning inspector after a public inquiry ended yesterday.

    The developers, Marsh Green Estates, say there's nothing remarkable about the site and its status as a special landscape area has been overstated.

    You get the impression 95-year-old carer Victor Shaw-Wilson from Littleover isn't looking for sympathy.

    He says: "There are thousands of people in Derby alone that are caring for people on a day-by-day basis, and they're are unseen because unfortunately they're caring so they don't socialise, they don't get a chance.

    "Even youngsters who come home from school that look after a mother or their father or a brother. Youngsters are doing that never mind adults."

    The results of a serious case review following the murder of a 21-month-old toddler from Burton have been put back by several months.

    Kathryn Smith, 23, was jailed for life for the murder of her daughter Ayeeshia Jane Smith.
