A woman whose home was flooded when a water main burst in the Chester Green area of Derby  said it could be up to a year before she can return home.

Dawn Mead's house on Mansfield Road was flooded and she had windows smashed by rocks and debris when the main burst on Sunday morning.

"We're staying in a hotel," Ms Mead told BBC Radio Derby.

"They booked us in initially for two weeks but we've had a call this morning from Severn Trent asking if we minded if they passed our details onto letting agents because it will be quite a long time [before we can get back into our home]."

    Bob Stear

Bob Stear, from Severn Trent, said they have done all they can to try to make sure people can go about their normal lives.

He said: "Clearly when it happens it's causing massive devastation. Obviously it has been our priority to look after the customers who have had a traumatic time of it.

"We've had teams out making sure they are not out of pocket and we've done all we can to re-home them."

The collection includes three Military Cross awards, believed to be one of only 25 examples where such gallantry was recognised in one person.

They belonged to former Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire Sir Peter Hilton, who fought at Dunkirk, El Alamein and D-Day, and wife Lady Winifred, who won seven medals in her own right.

The collection may fetch in the region of £10,000.
