    Nottingham city centre is to get a second bowling alley as part of the redevelopment of Broadmarsh.

    The alley, which will be run by Hollywood Bowl, is set to be positioned alongside the cinema once the development is completed in 2020.

    The group behind the project said getting a bowling alley was part of its vision to "create a fantastic mix of the best in catering and leisure".

    The city already has a bowling alley on Barker Gate near the ice arena.

    Signs are to be put up around Derby's Riverside area warning people not to feed the ducks.

    It follows the news four people have been handed £75 fines by the city council over the past two weeks after being accused of "littering" by throwing food to birds.

    In a statement, the authority said: "We would advise people not to encourage vermin by feeding birds in the city centre.

    "Anyone caught could be liable to receive a £75 fixed penalty notice."

    Ms Soubry, the MP for Broxtowe, was number of a handful of Conservative MPs who backed an amendment giving them a legal guarantee of a vote on the final Brexit deal - against the government's wishes.

    A new council housing development is being planned for part of Nottingham, with a focus on residents planting and growing their own food.

    More than 60 homes are being planned for a former school site, which has been unused for almost a decade, in Top Valley.

    "What makes it different is we are not just creating homes," Phillipa Mckenna from Nottingham City Homes said.

    "We are looking to create an environment that is sustainable and that encourages people to live healthier lives".

    A planning application is expected to be submitted next year.

    An American author has written a children's book about one of Nottinghamshire's most famous creations - the Bramley apple.

    Susan Allen was inspired to write her tale about the origins of the fruit when she visited the Bramley Festival in Southwell in October.

    Mary Ann and The Apple Tree will have its official launch at Southwell Library on Saturday morning, with a portion of any money it makes due to be donated to a foodbank in Newark.

    Shoe buckles said to have been worn by British naval hero Admiral Horatio Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar are expected to sell for thousands at an auction in Derbyshire later this month.

    Nelson, one of the UK’s most distinguished military figures, was killed in the decisive 1805 naval battle, which saw the Royal Navy thwart Napoleon Bonaparte's plans to invade Britain.

    The shoe buckles come in a framed box with a signed certificate proclaiming their provenance.

    It reads: "These Buckles are presented to Alexander Davison Esq of Swarland Park as a mark of my grateful respect for the many obligations.

    "These buckles were presented to me by the family of the late Lord Nelson… he wore [them] at the ever memorable Battle of Trafalgar."

    They are due to be sold at Hansons in Etwall on Wednesday with an estimate of £3,000-£5,000.

    Nottingham head coach Ian Costello is to leave the club at the end of the season to join Wasps.

    Costello, who joined the Green and Whites in the summer of 2016, will move to Coventry-based Wasps as a first team coach working under Dai Young.

    "The last 18 months at Nottingham Rugby have been an incredible experience and right up there as the most enjoyable period of my career to date," he said.

    "Nottingham is a special club made up of exceptional people and I couldn’t speak highly enough of the support me and my family have received on and off the pitch".

    Adam Peaty had to settle for third place in the 50m breaststroke final of the European Short Course Swimming Championships in Copenhagen last night.

    The former City of Derby swimmer, who now trains in Loughborough, was beaten by Italy's Fabio Scozzoli and Russia's Kirill Prigoda at the event.

    The short course tournament features a 25m pool - Peaty's world titles have come from his performances in 50m pools.

    A Second World War gas decontamination unit is set to be demolished to make way for a play area.

    Councillors decided last night that the building, in the grounds of Abbey Pumping Station in Leicester, should be knocked down.

    Although it was never used, it was a block of multiple showers that civilians could have walked through in the event of a gas attack.

    It was designed so that gas particles would go straight into the sewer as they were washed off.

    People opposed to the demolition unsuccessfully argued that it should be kept as constant reminder of the threat gas posed during World War Two.

    Photos have been shared of a man and woman police want to speak to after Melbourne's Christmas tree was vandalised within three hours of its lights being officially switched on, external.

    The force said it had footage recorded on 1 December showing the man running into the tree, causing damage to its lights and branches.

    PCSO Emma Guest said: "The man appears to have caused the damage and the woman appears to be with him and so may know who he is.

    “The tree is the focus of the market place at this time of year and is the result of a lot of hard work from the organisers. It is such a shame that this has happened."
