    A public health campaign is urging parents in the East Midlands to visit a pharmacist for minor illnesses, instead of their GP or the hospital.

    The NHS says if more used them, it would free up GPs for sicker patients and save around £850m a year.

    Research for the NHS shows just 9% of parents in the region with children under the age of five, would consider getting help from a high street pharmacist.

    The returning Nottingham Forest midfielder Adlene Guedioura says he never wanted to leave the club four years ago.

    The Algerian international was sold to Crystal Palace after three-and-a-half seasons at the City Ground.

    A woman from Lutterworth has created a safety app after she said a teenager was sexually assaulted in the area.

    Annette Wilcox said if she had known about the attack she would have gone to help the victim.

    It inspired her to create the street safe rescue app, which allows people to tap it, setting off an alert.

    The alert goes to the phones of everyone with the app in a 3km radius and when 10 people accept the call, they go to the aid of the person. All crimes are reported to the police.

    Annette said: "I didn't want to be in a situation again where someone else was attacked near me and feeling helpless and not being able to do anything."

    She said she has already met Leicestershire Police and the police and crime commissioner Lord Willy Bach to discuss the app.

    Roads in Mickleover are set for major disruption, external between now and end of the year as Severn Trent says the area's underground pipes are in need of urgent replacement.

    The work is to be carried out mainly on roads within Station Road between the junctions of Onslow Road and Uttoxeter Road but other areas could be affected as well.

    One of the dragons from Dragons' Den has turned down an entrepreneur - because he lives in Derby.

    Fashion-retail tycoon Touker Suleyman said he wouldn't invest in Ed Hollands' plan to put adverts on the sides of lorries because "Derby is too far away" for him to come into the office every day.

    New dragon Jenny Campbell was less worried and gave him £30,000. Ed told BBC Radio Derby it's been great working with her.

    He said: "I speak to her regularly over email and we have a board meeting every couple of months. It was difficult at the start, but I can now see the fruits of my labour."

    A herd of small goats have been stolen from a farm in the Derbyshire dales.

    Officers said 10 goats - along with two lambs - were reported missing from near Elton and Winster some time overnight on 7 February.

    A man has sold all of his belongings, external to travel around Europe with his pet ferret, "Bandit".

    Charlie Hammerton, 23, from Arnold is doing it all to raise money for charity, after suffering a number of tragic losses has made him realise "the importance of life".

    Gluten-free food will no longer be available on prescription from Derbyshire's four clinical commissioning groups.

    Their stance is that "there are plenty of naturally gluten-free products available for coeliacs".

    This is going against the advice of the government, which wants some products to stay available via prescription, external.

    Pamela Robinson from Alvaston has been a coeliac for 27 years - and because she's over 60, she doesn't pay for prescriptions. She believes that her shopping bill could "go up by £100 a month".

    She added: "The treatment for coeliacs is diet - the treatment for diabetes is insulin, they get that on prescription, of course they do - are they going to stop that? It's our medication."

    Two young men who were stabbed in Sheffield have questioned the length of sentence given to their attacker.

    Jake Lee and Leon Cheslett (pictured above) were both stabbed by 23 year-old Zak Pywell (pictured below) who had been high on cocaine and alcohol.

    Pywell, of Birley Spa Lane, is now serving four years and three months after being convicted at Sheffield Crown Court.

    Leon Cheslett says Pywell's action have blighted his life.

    He's given his impact statement to the BBC which was read out in court. This is part of what he had to say:

    His other victim, Jake Lee, from Chesterfield, feels the sentence is a lenient one:

    The Prince of Wales has met one of the newest recruits to the Mercian Regiment - a ram called Private Derby XXXII.

    The mascot, which is known for it's feisty reputation, met Prince Charles who visited the Mercian Regiment to mark his 10 years as colonel-in-chief.

    Private Derby XXXII, who is a 20-month-old Swaledale, only took up it’s role a few weeks ago.

    The Mercian Regiment recruits soldiers from Staffordshire, Worcestershire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Cheshire.

    There are calls to review the school admission code to help families who move to Oadby during term-time.

    Some parents claim they are unable to get places at local schools for their children.

    This means Leicestershire County Council has to provide transport to take the children to the nearest school with a free place.

    County councillor Jeff Kaufman said: "It is a problem because we have a large number of students with parents moving into Oadby and they can't get their children into local schools because they are full in mid-term.

    "The schools with any vacant places are filled up with students being sent there by the parents from the city of Leicester."

    The review will look at possible ways to solve the problem.

    Investigations are continuing today after reports of a man being shot in Top Valley.

    Nottinghamshire Police were called to Bestwood Park Drive at about 23:00 on Saturday and found a 25-year-old man with serious injuries.

    A police cordon was put in place around the Duke of St Albans pub, in Bewcastle Road.

    Officers believe it was an isolated incident and are appealing for information.

    There have been no arrests yet.

    The partner of a man who collapsed in Nottingham Prison said she was told about his death by another inmate who illegally rang her from the jail.

    Anthony Solomon, 38, from Bulwell, Nottingham, was found lying unresponsive on the floor of his cell on 27 September.

    Leanne Blakey said the unnamed prisoner told her the father of her daughter was "dead on the landing".

    The Ministry of Justice said it could not comment while the inquest was open.

    Five men died within four weeks at the prison in September and October, one of whom was Mr Solomon.

    Inquests into Mr Solomon's death - and that of two other inmates - were opened and adjourned in October.

    Two horses were killed and four vehicles destroyed when a barn was engulfed by fire.

    The blaze started at about 21:30 on Saturday at the site off Hinckley Road in Sapcote, Leicestershire.

    The owner of the horses, who did not want to be named, said he burned his hands trying to get the animals out, but the fire was too intense.

    Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service is due to investigate the cause of the blaze.
