    BBC Radio Nottingham

Nottinghamshire's police and crime commissioner has said classing misogyny as a hate crime is making a difference, despite only one person being charged with a crime as of this January.

The force was the first in the country to class unwanted sexual advances, wolf-whistling, verbal abuse or taking pictures without consent as hate crimes.

Paddy Tipping said: "I'm delighted that over two years we've had almost 170 incidents reported. There has been one successful prosecution but there have been three arrests.

"I just think over a period of time, it'll change attitudes and behaviour."

    Paddy Tipping

Amelia Womack, deputy leader of the Green Party, said she supported Nottinghamshire Police's approach.

She said 97% of the women who were asked said they were happy with the results of what they reported.

"It's about changing behaviour and making sure there's responsibility taken by people who are acting out these behaviours," she said.

"That's what we want to achieve, first and foremost."

The Market Bosworth Society nominated her to be honoured. Chairman Nigel Palmer described her as "a woman ahead of her time".

"She explored Patagonia at the age of 23, which was quite a trip in those days, and wrote a book about her travels, which was probably unheard of for a young lady of that age," he said.

"She wrote a book called 'Gloriana, or the Revolution of 1900' which correctly predicted there would be a female prime minister before 1999.

"She also reported on the Boer War for the Morning Post, and the aftermath of the Zulu War."

Councillors on North West Leicestershire District Council's planning committee voted in favour of the county council development yesterday.

The land will now be sold to a developer, although the former colliery's historic pithead buildings will remain on the site to form part of a heritage trail.

It has also submitted a separate planning application for a new pedestrian and cycle route along the former mineral railway line that served the pit.

A photo of a six-year-old boy who died from brain cancer has been added to the side of a bin lorry in his memory.

During his short life, Ari Rainford, from Derby, was crazy about waste refusal vehicles so the city council has agreed to dedicate one to him.

His father, Vance Rainford, said: "Bin lorries would come down the street and he'd stand at the window waiting for them to come. He'd wave to the bin men and they'd wave back.

"It became a bit of an obsession with him - everyone would buy him little bin lorries and bins for his birthday and Christmas."
