    East Midlands Today

New figures show 92 people who died in the East Midlands in the last year became lifesaving deceased organ donors.

But despite this, and a 300% increase in donors in the region over the last decade, the East Midlands is still failing to hit the national average.

Only 36% of people living here are on the donor register, compared with 38% nationally.

    Simon Elmore

Simon Elmore from Belper in Derbyshire had a kidney transplant three years ago and has gone onto compete in the World Transplant Games.

He said he's surprised there aren't more people thinking of joining the donor register "to do their bit".

Some England fans got carried away with celebrations in Nottingham on Saturday afternoon after England beat Sweden in the quarter finals of the World Cup.

People were seen climbing bus stops and others damaging a taxi in Market Square.

Ch Insp Simon Allardice said: "The vast majority of people enjoyed Saturday's celebrations safely and these incidents relate to a select number of people who took things too far.

"We want people to enjoy this momentous occasion but safely and with respect for others."

The force put on extra patrols for Saturday's match with plans in place ahead of England's semi-final World Cup match on Wednesday.

Ch Insp Allardice added: "We ask people who are out for the event on Wednesday to consider their actions, particularly when the sun is shining and alcohol is involved."
