It’s significant for both the district and county councils. For the district, it means that the composition changes and the Mansfield Independent Forum no longer has a majority.

Both men are also county councillors, who as part of the Mansfield Independent Forum were working in coalition with the Conservatives at County Hall. It's not yet clear what this will mean for the administration there.

If they leave the county council coalition as well, that would leave the Conservatives with 31 seats, plus the two remaining Mansfield Independent Forum county councillors.

There are 66 seats on that council - the current administration would be left with only 33. No majority.
