    Police have applied to have the license of a Derby pub revoked after a fight on Sunday.

    Derbyshire Police say the dispute at D Gio's pub on Wardwick was the latest in number of "serious crimes and disorders" at the premises.

    The owners have yet to comment.

    Police are looking for a man who robbed a woman in a Leicester street.

    The woman was walking along Maidstone Road at 09:50 on Monday when she was pushed over from behind and had her bag and phone taken.

    She suffered a head injury and remains in hospital in a stable condition.

    A suspect, believed to be in his late 20s or early 30s, was seen running off through Apollo Close.

    Three boys have been arrested after CCTV operators spotted a group fighting "with knives" in a Bulwell street.

    However it's believed only punches were thrown in the fight in Kersall Road, Bulwell, at around 01:10 today.

    Two boys aged 13 and one aged 15 have been arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a bladed article.

    One of the 13-year-olds was also arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis.

  5. Bronze Age urn goes on display in townpublished at 12:22 British Summer Time 23 May 2019

    Staff at Melton Carnegie Museum recently uncovered some hidden treasures while having a clean up.

    In January the museum closed for a few days so staff could sort through several artefacts that had been packed away unseen for years.

    Bronze Age cremation urn

    Among the items found were a Bronze Age cremation urn. This was found in Sproxton and contained the cremated remains of a young woman.

    It's now back on show, alongside more than 50 other newly-displayed pieces.

    Anglo-Saxon sword pommel cap

    These include an Anglo-Saxon sword pommel cap, which was found by a metal detectorist in Scalford in 2016. It was bought by the county council and has been cleaned up and now put on display for the first time.

    An Iron Age shield has been discovered by archaeologists at the University of Leicester.

    They claim it's the only one of its kind to be found in Europe.

    The 2,300-year-old shield was found to the south of the city on the Everards Meadows site in 2015. The last four years have been spent analysing the pieces.

    It was "severely damaged", which is thought to have been caused by the pointed tips of spears.

    It's made from bark and has wooden laths to help stiffen the structure. It also has a wooden edging rim and a woven boss to protect the wooden handle.

    The outside of the shield has been painted and scored in red chequerboard decoration.

    Radiocarbon dating has revealed that the shield was made between 395 and 255 BC. It has now been conserved and will be given to the British Museum.

    A £13m government grant is expected to assist with the development of more than 1,000 new homes in Leicestershire.

    Leicestershire County Council said the money, from Homes England, will help open up a 44-acre site to develop 649 new homes in Lutterworth.

    It will also be spent on the redevelopment of land for 144 new houses in Coalville and infrastructure around a 290-home development near Melton Mowbray.

    County council chairman Nick Rushton said the money is a start but much more is needed.

    He said: "The numbers going forward are actually pretty frightening. Over the next 25 years, we've got to find £600m."

    India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin will join Nottinghamshire as their overseas player for six County Championship games from late June.

    Ashwin, 32, will replace Australia seam bowler James Pattinson, who is expected to be part of his country's Ashes squad from July.

    Savage is hoping to raise awareness and cash for the Alzheimer's Society.

    The cause is one close to his heart - he lost his own dad to the condition.

    Tributes have been paid to an "honest, loyal and trustworthy friend" who died in a crash in Smisby on Friday.

    Richard Faulkner died after his car collided with a tree on Derby Road just after 06:00.

    His friends and family say he was loved by everyone who knew him.

    They said: “He had been suffering with his mental health and, later that day, he was due to see healthcare professionals.

    "His friends feel like he did not receive the treatment he required and this is being investigated."

    It's hoped the high-speed rail project will spark massive regeneration around the station in Toton, but a growing number of MPs have raised concerns over cost.

    The region's chamber of commerce says some companies are unsure whether to invest in new premises or move.

    She was reported missing on Tuesday afternoon after leaving the cinema at the Meridian Leisure Park in Leicester.

    It's thought she may have been seen in Melton Mowbray at about 14:00 but there have been no reported sightings since.

    Leicestershire Police say they're becoming "increasingly concerned" for her welfare.

    Plans for a new bypass for Melton Mowbray will be considered later by Leicestershire County Council.

    Government funding for the £63m scheme was confirmed last year and since then the proposals have gone on display to the public.

    It's hoped the project, redirecting traffic along the A606 in a loop around the north east of the town, will be completed by 2022.

    A man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a man who was found dead in a flat.

    The man's body was found in the property in St Peters Road, Leicester, on Friday and police said following a post-mortem examination, his death was declared suspicious.

    A 52-year-old man from the city was arrested on suspicion of murder in Prebend Gardens earlier.

    Police said he remains in custody and inquiries are ongoing.

    Prison officers "routinely ignore" rules on when to use body-worn video cameras and fail to record use of force against inmates, charities have warned.

    Separate concerns have been raised over the under-use of cameras at nine jails this year - including HMP Lowdham Grange in Nottinghamshire.

    The Prison Reform Trust said it was "very worrying" officers were disregarding "completely clear" instructions on when to use cameras.

    The Prison Service said it was taking measures to address the problem.

  19. Gun shots heard in 'targeted attack'published at 08:07 British Summer Time 23 May 2019

    Police have said they're doing everything they can to find those responsible for discharging a firearm in Nottingham overnight.

    There were reports of gunfire on Hazel Hill Crescent in Bestwood Park just after midnight. It's not believed anyone was injured.

    Police say it's believed to have been a "targeted attack" with no risk to the wider community.

    Det Insp Yvonne Dales said: "This is a very concerning matter and as you'd imagine we are treating it very seriously."

    There's an appeal for anyone who witnessed the shooting to contact the police - specifically anyone who saw a man wearing dark clothing getting on a motorbike.
