    The good news is that the storms seem to have missed the town so far.

    There's still a Met Office yellow weather warning in place until midnight, but it does look as though Whaley Bridge is going to avoid the worst of those thundery downpours.

    In the early hours, there's a chance of lighter rain moving in but at the moment it's not looking too heavy.

    I'm told the Chinook will keep coming in and dropping bags of aggregate until 23:00.

    The pictures have been taken by Nev Clarke who runs the the Whaley Bridge Canal Group. His volunteers have been working with the Canal and River Trust.

    Rev Margaret Jones has two churches within the evacuation zone and told a special BBC Radio news show she was "very proud and humbled" by the way people in the town had responded to the situation.

    "Everybody is really doing their very best to help everybody else so we should be very proud of our community and the way it has responded."

    BBC News has spoken to some of the residents who were in the meeting earlier.

    This man wasn't impressed with what he found out, and said he was "very upset that questions are being asked inside and the questions aren't getting answered".

    Others said they were impressed with the way the rescue teams and volunteers had tackled the work to reduce water levels and called it "really exemplary".

    Another resident said: "We just want to go back to normal but obviously if we are in danger we can't go back".

    There are still going to be a lot of road closures around Whaley Bridge tonight and into tomorrow morning.

    Police have posted the long list on their Facebook page, external so be sure to check those if you live in the area.

    Around 300-400 people were crammed into a very, very hot and sweaty sports hall at Chapel-en-le-Frith High School earlier this evening.

    The overall mood was very positive.

    Residents have been a credit to the area. They have been patient and supportive, and even at points of the meeting where it got less friendly, they were immediately brought down by positive people thanking the emergency service.

    One lady said right at the end "we should be thankful that we have got our lives" and that's very much the feeling around Whaley Bridge.

    For people here it is chilling to think what could have happened if the dam had failed without warning.

    Including Brian and Sue Longden who have taken in their children and grandchildren.

    "We would've lost our family," said Sue. "Our son, his wife and our two lovely girls.

    "And so would have everyone else involved in our village lower down."

    Derbyshire Constabulary's Deputy Chief Constable Rachel Swann has been talking to BBC News about the people who have refused to leave their homes.

    She said 31 people were still inside 22 homes.

    "We've not evacuated this for no reason," she said.

    "We've evacuated it because there is a real prospect the dam could fail, and if it fails it will be catastrophic.

    "People would die if they were in that zone, and those who remain are putting their lives at risk."

    She said by staying the residents were also putting the lives of her police officers at risk as they had to keep going into the evacuation zone to speak to them.

    Tina Power runs the Soldier Dick pub in Furness Vale, close to Whaley Bridge.

    She said the area had become a ghost town and for once she could hear the birds singing.

    "It's really sad," she added.

    "You can replace material things to a degree but when it's your livelihood and your home, everything, where do you begin?"

    Edwina Currie lives on a hill outside the evacuation zone in Whaley Bridge and said people within it who had not left their homes were being a "bloody nuisance" .

    "If the dam goes then somebody is going to have to risk their life to get you out and look after you," she said.

    "We should all do our bit to minimise the pressure on our emergency services who have been working around the clock."

    Speaking on BBC radio, she offered up a spare bed in her house to anyone who wanted to stay in a safe part of Whaley Bridge.

    "I'd rather you do that than be a problem when you stay in your home deep in the town where you shouldn't be," she added.

    Former MP and Whaley Bridge resident Edwina Currie says the Dunkirk spirit in the town has been "very astonishing and heart warming".

    She also told a special BBC radio news broadcast getting round the road closures had been a struggle, and would start to get difficult for businesses and people trying to get to work in the week.

    "There comes a point where people start to say 'we have got a living to earn'," she said.

    "The trains have stopped and it's quite difficult to get out of Whaley Bridge, which is fine while the freezers are still full but neighbours are helping each other out.

    "It's quite a close-knit community here."

    Where we had high cloud and relatively blue skies earlier on, it is starting to darken over the moors and there's a big tower of cloud above, and it does look like it's boding a bit.

    Everybody is thinking about the rain and what happens if we get a serious rain event here and see if that changes the situation.

    BBC reporter Wesley Mallin has told a special BBC radio news broadcast the mood in Whaley Bridge is very different to how it was on Friday.

    "There is clearly a level of concern and the exclusion zone has been drawn out," he said.

    He said he saw a cyclist earlier today trying to "cheek and get past the police" and said he received a stern talking to from an officer.

    Wesley said many residents were congregating at a pub at the top of the hill looking down on the reservoir as there are very few places they can go.
