A police dog is on the mend after it was injured helping in the arrest of two men.
Leicestershire Police arrested a man on suspicion of taking a vehicle without the owner's consent and possessing cannabis after officers stopped a car on Walsgrave Avenue in Leicester yesterday afternoon.
A force spokesman said the 20-year-old, a passenger in the vehicle, was pursued by PD Riggs and officers before being caught on Woodnewton Drive nearby.
Despite injuring its leg jumping over a wall, the police dog managed to detain the suspect, who has been treated for minor injuries.
A vet treated Riggs (and gave him a couple of gravy bones) for minor injuries.
The driver, also a man aged 20, fled the scene but was arrested on suspicion of theft of a vehicle.

Scientists from the University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University are to work with UK biotech firm Scancell to develop a vaccine against Covid-19.
It is hoped the vaccine, created with processes already used in the development of anti-cancer drugs, will give a more potent and long-lasting response than others being worked on, as well as protecting against new strains of coronavirus in the future.
Scancell said it was working towards starting clinical trials early next year, subject to funding.
Professor Nigel Wright, from Nottingham Trent University, said: "These are clearly challenging times and significant progress in the development of new approaches for protecting against this virus will only be possible by collaborations such as these."

A dog rescue shelter has received donations totalling more than £17,000 to help look after the animals during the coronavirus lockdown.
Social distancing means potential adopters are not able to visit Babbington Rescue in Nottinghamshire.
Its pet shop and boarding service has also had to close, putting a strain on finances.
With 20 homeless dogs still in their care and no money coming in, an appeal for help was put out on social media.
Co-owner Samantha Sanderson said: "I just happened to post on Facebook about how much the dogs cost to keep here each day - forget the other costs - just the dogs.
"Within that night, there was about £5,000 that had come through on our PayPal account - we were just blown away."
Ms Sanderson this money will allow them to keep rescuing and caring for dogs without having to worry about money for a couple of months.

A Leicester-based music licensing company is hosting a 24-hour online music festival with acts including Tom Walker (below) and Alfie Boe.
The Performing Right Society (PRS) has organised LCKDWN to raise money for songwriters and composers facing financial hardship during the coroanvirus pandemic.
The festival starts at midday today and features more than 50 artists.
Barney Hooper - the director of communications and marketing for PRS - said: "We created this because we knew that a lot of music creators are self-employed, they rely on gigging and the royalties we provide and that's under a lot of pressure."
The event is free to watch on YouTube and the PRS website but donations to the PRS Emergency Relief Fund will be encouraged.

The owners of a Leicestershire mill have seen demand for their flour rocket since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
Sally Craven usually works on a part-time basis, making a range of different flour at Claybrooke Water Mill.
She is now working 12-hour shifts to keep on top of orders.
At one point she was receiving 300 email enquiries every hour.
Ms Craven said: "I've got 1,600 accounts online just waiting to be activated but sadly I can't serve them all, I've just not got the capacity."
Her flour has been sent as far as Inverness and the Isle of Man, but Ms Craven has now had to stop taking new orders so she can catch up with the backlog.
