Leicester’s seven-day coronavirus infection rate is now at the highest points it’s ever been - with more infections confirmed than before it was put into local lockdown in June.

There have been 278.1 cases per 100,000 people confirmed in the last week, with 985 current cases.

When a local lockdown was put in place the rate was 135.

The county’s rate is now at 234.8 cases per 100,000 population, and the number of current cases in the county stands at 1,658.

Both the city and county areas are well above the national average of 188.5 cases per 100,000 population, according to the NHS progression dashboard.

  2. Nottinghamshire Tier 3 terms 'not a done deal'published at 15:38 Greenwich Mean Time 26 October 2020

    Local Democracy Reporter

The terms of a deal to move Nottingham and surrounding boroughs into Tier 3 local lockdown restrictions are still "not a done deal", sources close to the talks have said.

The financial support councils receive, as well as which venues will be told to close are two of the sticking points.

Talks have resumed this afternoon between the government and the leaders of Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, Gedling, Broxtowe and Rushcliffe.

It is also understood there remains considerable opposition from some parties to the terms being offered by the government.

It will be the third round of meetings since talks officially started on Thursday.

It is understood the geography of the new restrictions is not one of the issues which the leaders are still discussing, suggesting Ashfield, Bassetlaw, Mansfield and Newark and Sherwood will all remain in Tier 2.
