    This evening's illuminations in Matlock Bath have been cancelled and tomorrow's event is in doubt as roads remain seriously impacted by the floods.

    The illuminations, where themed model boats float on the River Derwent, takes place annually on Saturdays and Sundays in the autumn.

    Derbyshire Dales District Council said in a statement: "Sadly we are cancelling this evening's illuminations.

    "Everyone who has booked tickets will automatically be refunded - you don't need to do anything.

    "The decision was easy this morning as the roads network, particularly towards Derby, remains seriously impacted by the floods, with many roads still closed."

    The council said the advice was not to travel in Derbyshire today.

    "Unfortunately, this means Sunday's event is also in doubt," the authority added.

    It said a decision would be announced tomorrow morning.

    Flooding at the Museum of Making in Derby, which sits on the banks of the River Derwent, means the building will be closed for a significant amount of time, bosses have said.

    Operations manager Alex Rock said: "It is devastating... it is quite shocking to come and see this.

    "We have a lot of members of staff waking up this morning who have put blood, sweat and tears into this building.

    "To see it in the state it is in at the moment is really hard for them."

    He added they've done what they can to protect the museum.

    "We've done the best we can. The building historically is a water mill - it is expected to flood. All of our collections are relatively safe," he said.

    "There is going to be quite a lot of damage to the ground floor. It is the business interruption for us.

    "This is huge - we are going to be closed for quite a significant amount of time. It is very difficult for us to take at the moment.

    "I'm holding the keys in my pocket but I can't get in to the building - it's not safe."

    A short time ago the Environment Agency issued three severe flood warnings for Derby, indicating there is a risk to life.

    Water levels on the River Derwent in the city are currently at a height of 3.57m - the highest ever recorded at that monitoring station.

    The Environment Agency said: "We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are patrolling watercourses in the area and liaising with emergency services and Derby City Council.

    "Stay away from flood water and do not take unnecessary risks. Please follow the advice of the emergency services and first responders on the ground and on Derby City Council’s website."

    These are for:

    In Derby city centre, river levels have reached their highest ever point at just over 3.5m.

    Charles Edwards, Derby City Council's emergency planning officer, said: "The city has never seen the river levels this high before. In certain areas the water has breached the banks of the river.

    "Exeter Street and Meadow Road is now underwater and certain areas around there.

    "All of our flood gates have been deployed and they are holding water back.

    "We've put additional flood defences out and they are being effective. But clearly some areas are still vulnerable."

    He added conversations were being had about evacuating people from their homes.

    Roads are also closed including the A52, which is closed between the Wyvern retail park and Pentagon Island heading into Derby.

    The A52 eastbound - toward Nottingham - is down to one lane just after Pentagon Island but is passable.

    Services on East Midlands Railway are also suspended between Derby and Long Eaton, between Derby and Stoke-on-Trent and between Derby and Matlock.

    Clive Stanbrook, area manager at Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, warned flood waters could continue to rise near Derby and across south Derbyshire on Saturday.

    He told BBC Breakfast: "We rescued over 100 people yesterday. For example, just on one road in Chesterfield in the north of the county, we rescued 60 people when that [water level] became up to the top of cars and several HGVs were stuck as well."

    He continued: "There is a village called Duffield in Derbyshire and we rescued 20 people from one care home there.

    "Also there were 18 houses that were evacuated in a village called Ironville, again in the north of the county."

    Mr Stanbrook added that officers had been working through the night to rescue people and said West Midlands Fire Service had sent two boat crews to assist.

    Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said its crews rescued about 100 people from flood-hit homes and businesses on Friday.

    This included 60 people in Chesterfield, 20 people from a care home in Duffield and others in the village of Ironville.

    A refuge centre has been set up at a local village hall after several homes were evacuated in Edwinstowe, Nottinghamshire, due to flooding.

    Nottinghamshire Police said they were helping a number of residents leave their properties in Mill Lane and High Street after the River Maun burst its banks shortly before 17:30 BST.

    Charnwood Borough Council says it has activated a Severe Weather Emergency Protocol, external for people sleeping rough in the area.

    National Highways says flooding that was causing problems on the A1 between Newark and Grantham has receded and contractors have been able to reopen all lanes.
