    A couple who found a message in a bottle on a beach in Newquay will be posted back to the person who originally threw it into the sea.

    Neil and Sandi Purdy found the message from Pouch Bay, Newfoundland, Canada, on Lusty Glaze beach.

    It's thought to have travelled 2,300 miles across the Atlantic.

    Pottery and bone fragments discovered in Devon 30 years ago could reveal more about the history of Exeter thanks to new scientific techniques.

    A £1m project will see objects found in the 1970s and 80s properly tested for the first time by experts from the University of Exeter.

    The artefacts are from the Royal Albert Memorial Museum's collection in Exeter. Experts will use multi-isotope analysis and radiocarbon dating, as well as chemical analysis in a bid to find out more about the items.

    The acting chief executive of the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust has blamed poor staff survey results simply on the hospital being too busy.

    The feedback has put the hospital in the bottom 20% of acute trusts in the country. Andrew MacCallum said: "Our staff are working in very challenging, difficult circumstance, particularly in busy A&E departments."

    He said they were doing a "great job" and he had experienced first-hand a much more positive moral.

    Cornwall's scrutiny committee on health and adult social care has demanded answers from NHS England over future health care for thousands of people affected by the closure of Cardrew Health Centre.

    The NHS wants the funds currently used for Cardrew in Redruth to go towards bolstering services at Redruth and Camborne Community Hospital instead. 

    But today managers presented their plans to an unimpressed committee of councillors, who have asked for proof that the health centre's closure won't impact on patients.

    Disabled adults living in care homes were shut in and left alone in empty rooms for so long they wet or soiled themselves, a court has heard.

    The rooms at Vielstone and Gatooma care homes in Devon had been used more than 1,000 times, Bristol Crown Court was told. 

    The "imprisonment" was likened by prosecutors to training an animal. The boss of the homes and four staff deny a string of offences.

    Cornish Pirates' back-row Dan Lee could be out for a lengthy spell after suffering a knee injury.

    The 22-year-old, who is an ex-England Under 19's player, made his debut in December having joined in 2014.

    "He suffered a serious knee injury in training," Pirates director of rugby Ian Davies told BBC Radio Cornwall. "I'm devastated for the lad because he was going to be playing a major part moving forward until the end of the season for us."

    Police in Torpoint are appealing for help after a number of estate agents' for sale signs on empty properties around Millbrook, Kingsands and Cawsands were removed, damaged or destroyed, external

    Officers posted on their Facebook page that they were "anxious to hear from anyone who may have information" regarding the spate of thefts and criminal damage.

    Coldplay could become Brit Awards record breakers if they take home the British group gong later. 

    The band, whose lead singer Chris Martin was born and raised in Exeter, have previously won the award in 2012, 2003 and 2001.

    The results of the latest NHS staff survey show only 50% of people questioned say they'd be happy with the standard of care provided by the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust if a friend or relative needed treatment. 

    Although this puts the RCHT in the lowest 20% of acute hospital trusts in England some of the results are significantly better than last year.

    Sarah Woodward, from union Unison, said: "Staff are overworked and tired and that is shown in the results. The trust has to keep listening to their staff if they want to see an improvement."
