    The Pilgrims face Portsmouth over two legs for a place in the final, having lost at the same stage last season to Wycombe Wanderers.

    "We've got that bit of experience now," McHugh, 23, told BBC Radio Devon. "The spine of the squad have played in the games last year and hopefully that'll help us."

    The BBC can reveal the policing watchdog has been called in to investigate allegations of undeclared election expenses by Devon and Cornwall's new police and crime commissioner.

    The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) will review claims that Alison Hernandez didn't fully declare expenses when she was general election agent in Torbay last year.

    The IPCC will decide whether to investigate themselves, or refer the matter to another police force. Alison Hernandez denies any wrongdoing and says she wants to get on with her job, serving the people of Devon and Cornwall.

    "We have acted on all the CQC's "must do" recommendations and are seeing better results for patients across the board."  

  4. Actor Robson Green helps man in 70s after 60ft cliff fallpublished at 09:44 British Summer Time 12 May 2016

    The actor Robson Green has been involved in a dramatic rescue in Clovelly. 

    He was filming in the north Devon village yesterday afternoon when a man in his 70s fell 60ft down a cliff.

    Two local men and the actor went to cut him free from brambles. Specialist rope teams and the coastguard helicopter were then called in. The man was winched back to the village where he was said to be shaken but unhurt.

    A Truro town councillor has been suspended from his party after tweeting a link to a Holocaust denial website. 

    Lance Dyer, who represents Mebyon Kernow, has apologised for the tweet, which linked to an article claiming the true number of Jews killed in concentration camps in the Second World War was 271,000, not the millions widely accepted by mainstream historians.

    Councillor Dyer also said he does not agree with the claims made on the website and wishes he had taken more care to understand their full significance.

    Tom Daley and Grace Reid have won Great Britain's first gold medal of the 2016 European Aquatics Championships.

    Daley, 21, from Plymouth, and Reid, who turned 20 on Monday, won the mixed 3m synchronised event at the Olympic Park Aquatics Centre in London.

    Daley told BBC Sport: "I can't believe what has just happened. Grace and I were only put together 10 days ago and to come away with a European gold on a board that I never train on, I'm just over the moon."

    Three captive deer - including one which was heavily pregnant - have been shot and killed at a solar energy farm in West Cornwall, police have said.

    According to the St Ives and Hayle Police Facebook, external page, the deaths have happened in recent weeks.

    The animals were living within a fenced off area of the farm at Connor Downs. Police are keen to hear from anyone who may be able to help them trace those responsible.

    Inspectors have told managers at the Royal Cornwall Hospital it will need a "combined determination of the staff, the leadership team and the commissioners" to turn it round after a second critical report in two years., external

    Cornwall's main hospital has been told it still has to get better, two years after it was given the same instruction by inspectors. 

    Hospital bosses insisted changes had been made and care was getting better.
