  1. Town council takes over St Ives loospublished at 14:20 British Summer Time 14 June 2016

    A public loo in St Ives is being upgraded and will have attendants to clean and collect cash from users over the summer.

    The facilities, in the Sloop car park, have recently been handed over to the Town Council, which says it is planning to renovate and improve all seven public conveniences in the town.

  2. Billy Ocean tour comes to Plymouth Pavilionspublished at 14:07 British Summer Time 14 June 2016

    Musical icon Billy Ocean will bring his Best of Tour to Plymouth Pavilions, external next year.

    The Trinidadian-born English recording artist will perform at the city venue on 29 March 2017 and tickets will go on sale this Friday at 10am.

    Billy Ocean has sold over 30 million records in his lifetime.

    Stuart Hodgkin, of Stockbridge Road, Winchester, has been sentenced for the death of Adrian Munday, who was beaten to death in his home in Devon last year.

    Hodgkin, 41, had denied the murder, but was found guilty on Monday at Exeter Crown Court.

    Speaking outside the court Mr Munday's family said they were "devastated by the callous and brutal murder".

  4. Royal Cornwall Show: Nine-thousand fewer visitors compared with 2015published at 13:29 British Summer Time 14 June 2016

    The number of people who went to the Royal Cornwall Show this year was down by 9,000 on last year's figure. 

    There were 117,000 visitors this year compared to 126,000 last year. The show's secretary, Christopher Riddle says despite the drop in visitors he considers the event to have been a great success. 

    Poor weather was forecast for the second and third days and it's thought that this put many people off from making the trip to Wadebridge.

    A man from Cornwall was killed when he was hit by a train while on home leave from being treated for mental health problems out of the county, an inquest has heard. 

    David Knight, 29, died last May on the Trenance viaduct outside St Austell station.

    The inquest into his death began this morning and is expected to last four days.

    A man from Paignton was surrounded by a group of men and punched in the face.

    A member of the public stopped to help the 24-year-old victim who was then treated at Torbay Hospital.

    Police are looking for witnesses to the assault which took place at around 03:30 BST on 22 May.

    A teenage motorcyclist is in hospital with serious head injuries after a crash in Penzance.

    The 19-year-old motorcyclist was taken by air ambulance to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.   

    Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash which involved a white Toyota Auris and an orange Pulse XF125 motorcycle at the junction of Alexandra Place and Alexandra Road at around 17:50 BST on Monday.

    • On the A30 at Kennards House in Cornwall one lane is closed in both directions due to drainage works with slow traffic
    • At Cheriton Bishop on the A30 heading to Exeter the exit slip road is partially blocked due to a broken down horsebox
    • Near Newquay on the A392 between Quintrell Downs and Treloggan Road there are temporary traffic lights and roadworks with slow traffic

    Jon Rudd, the coach of swimmer Ruta Meilutyte, says sport governing bodies should lose the power to impose bans on drugs cheats.

    Rudd, who is also coach of Ben Proud, says the World Anti-Doping Agency or the International Olympic Committee must impose bans.

    "That way we're more likely to have a credible, transparent and fair results," he told BBC Sport. "At the moment we don't get that, we get all sorts of different results for different athletes from different countries for different sports."

    At Exeter Crown Court, sentencing Stuart Hodgkin, 41, to 20 years in jail, Judge Graham Cottle said his victim Adrian Munday was "a decent, genuine man".

    A man has been jailed for 20 years for murdering a vulnerable person in what police have described as a "savage attack".

    Stuart Hodgkin, 41, originally from Basingstoke, robbed Adrian Munday before beating him to death at his home in Newton Abbot in October last year.

    Mr Munday suffered injuries all over his body including 20 rib fractures, broken toes, and significant head and brain injuries, before Hodgkin set fire to his body and the house, Devon and Cornwall Police said.

    Miniature pigs at a farm in Devon are racing to decide the outcome of the EU Referendum on 23 June.

    The piglets were named in honour of the historic occasion. For the In Campaign, David Hameron and George Hogsbourne, while Boar-is Johnson and Iain Duncan-Sniff are hamming up for the Out campaign.
