    Fire crews have been called to a number of properties in North Devon after heavy rain caused them to flood in a hamlet north of Holsworthy.

    Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said it had pumped water from a handful of cottages in Leacott. 

    In nearby Clawton, flood defences have breached and properties have been evacuated - but none have been flooded, the service said.

    Police and fire crews are currently closing affected roads.

    A Plymouth MP has been named as one of the worst in the country when it comes to answering constituents' e-mails.

    The charity MySociety, external surveyed more than 100 people in the Sutton and Devonport constituency of Conservative Oliver Colvile. According to the Plymouth Herald, external, two weeks after writing to him, just 10% had received replies, putting him fourth last out of 642 MPs.

    Mr Colvile told the BBC a software glitch meant the emails went to a file which they didn't know about, and it would be fixed. He said: "I'm really sorry that this has happened ... We'll make sure that we look at that piece of software which we weren't aware of."

    Dawlish is to become the first place in Devon and Cornwall to impose a Public Space Protection Order, external.

    It will cover a large area around The Lawns, and will ban swearing, shouting, drinking, littering, being intoxicated and sleeping there after dark. Offenders could get on-the-spot fines.

    The use of the orders elsewhere in England and Wales has led to accusations that councils are creating "bizarre new criminal offences".

    A Dinky toy collection of about 3,500 cars has fetched £150,000 at an auction of "international significance".

    John Kinchen, from Portsmouth, collected the vehicles for decades before his death last year, with models dating from 1937 to the early 1970s.

    The rarest model, a South African issue Dinky 139 Ford Consul Cortina, sold for £800 in Exmouth, Devon. Auctioneer Piers Motley said the collection had been "well known amongst the Dinky world for decades".

    Flooding has been reported on roads across Devon and Cornwall this morning, as a yellow severe weather warning for rain, external from the Met Office includes the South West.

    Heavy showers crossing both counties saw 30mm fall in the Bude area within two hours, forecasters said, external.

    Drivers should be aware of surface water flooding.

    Incidents include:

    • In Devon, the A388 south of Whimble, Holsworthy, was reported as partially blocked due to flooding and a road collision
    • The A388 at Town Mills was described as impassable
    • The B3232 at Huntshaw Cross only had one lane passable 
    • The A3072 at Anvil Corner was reported as almost impassable 
    • In Cornwall, the A388 in Launceston at Newport Square, near Riverside, was affected by flooding

    Fishing boats from across the South West are joining a flotilla sailing up the River Thames this morning as part of the campaign to Leave Europe.

    Vessels from Plymouth and Brixham, and ports in Cornwall are known to be attending the event near Westminster. Flags will also be flown in local ports. 

    Leave campaigners said the EU's Common Fisheries Policy had devastated the British fishing industry. Remain supporters said the EU's work has managed to prevent over-fishing.

    A retired solicitor who took wild bird eggs from a nest in Orkney has been fined £4,200.

    William Beaton, 73, from Devon, admitted wildlife crimes carried out in late May and early June this year. Beaton was spotted collecting an arctic tern egg on a beach at Furrowend, Shapinsay.

    He was later found to be in possession of eggs, including those of rock doves and great skuas, and an extending spoon, used to collect eggs.
