    A former teacher from Cornwall sexually abused his pupils at a preparatory school in Winchester.

    Jonathan Thomson-Glover, 54, pleaded guilty to four counts of indecency at Truro Crown Court.

    Thomson-Glover is already serving a jail sentence for making indecent images of pupils while working as a teacher at Clifton College in Bristol.

    At Truro Crown Court Recorder Martin Meeke QC sentenced Thomson-Glover to an additional six months in jail for abusing two 12-year-old boys between 1987 and 1992 at the school in Winchester and at a holiday home in Cornwall.

    Police have urged people not approach an escaped lynx "as it could become dangerous if alarmed or cornered".

    Officers have visited two local schools to offer safety advice and reassurance. 

    All children at All Saints Primary School are not in school as they are away on a field trip. Police are also working with staff at Little Orchard Montessori School to make sure they are kept inside.

    Officers are also going house-to-house in the area to offer advice and are assisting with the search on the ground.

    The National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter has been deployed to assist with the search of the boundaries of the zoo.

  3. Devon and Cornwall Police urge public to call 999 if they spot escaped lynxpublished at 11:56 British Summer Time 7 July 2016

    Devon and Cornwall Police said it was informed at 10:20 that a lynx had escaped from its enclosure at Dartmoor Zoo. 

    Staff and volunteers have been searching the park and the animal is now thought to have left the grounds, officers said.

    The lynx is a wild cat approximately the size of a large domestic cat and is grey/silver in colour. 

    If members of the public find the cat they should call 999 immediately quoting log 252 of 7 July 2016.

    Dartmoor Zoo has confirmed the lynx that escaped is a Carpathian Lynx.

    The zoo took delivery of the animal last night, but about earlier this morning discovered that it had dug its way out of the enclosure. 

    Police are advising members of the public not to approach the animal and call 101 quoting log 252 of 7 July if it is seen.

    A lynx has escaped from Dartmoor Zoo. 

    The zoo took delivery of the animal last night, but about an hour ago discovered that it had dug its way out of the enclosure. 

    Thirty staff and volunteers have searched the zoo and concluded it has managed to escape from the grounds. Police are on site and neighbouring properties have been alerted. 

    The zoo is currently closed. A lynx is bigger than a domestic cat, but smaller than a lion or tiger and is predominantly grey with brown flecks.

    The Chiefs start with a trip to beaten semi-finalists Wasps, then host champions Saracens before taking on Harlequins and nearest rivals Bristol.

    "Exeter against Wasps - every single fixture was an incredible fixture last year, so if you're going to start the season with a fixture why not play Wasps again? We'll want to prove a point, Wasps will want to prove a point," Baxter told BBC Sport.

    Officers in Cornwall are going to start using a Segway to police a stretch of coastline.  

    Insp Dave Meredith said: “This is a new approach to policing our beaches and I am delighted that Newquay police have embraced the use of a Segway to enhance our patrol cover of the town’s beaches.

    "The Segway supports the force’s green agenda and gives local officers the ability to search and patrol large beach areas that would otherwise be challenging to access. It will enable officers to talk to visitors and residents throughout the beach areas, and have a positive impact on public confidence.”

    The use of the Segway will be confined to occasional beach patrols and will not be used to patrol pavements, roads, nor the town centre, the force said.

    Highways England is reintroducing wild flowers and grass species to road side verges in Devon and Cornwall.

    A pilot, which used seeds collected from nearby sites to improve verges on the A30 near Hayle, won a national award.

    There are now plans to roll it out to other sites along the A30 and A38 in Devon and Cornwall.

    The introduced species, including poppy, corn cockle, tufted vetch, knapweed, bird’s foot trefoil, wild carrot and yellow rattle provide a vital source of pollen and nectar for the UK’s insect and butterfly species.

    French courts are to take no further action against a ski-resort where a Devon schoolboy was killed in a freak accident.

    Kieran Brookes, 14, from Bovey Tracey, was on a school skiing trip in the Alpine resort of Chatel, near Geneva, in 2011. He was strangled when the straps of his backpack became entangled as he tried to get off a ski lift.

    At the original hearing last year, ski company SAEM Sports et Tourisme a Chatel was cleared of corporate manslaughter. French prosecutors appealed that decision, but again, judges in France have ruled there was no criminal wrongdoing by the company. A civil case against the firm is expected in the UK at a later date.

    Richard Cettour, who was supervising at the time, was found guilty of indirect manslaughter last year. He had been at the back of the hut cleaning tools at the time.

    • On the Devon side of the A38, westbound traffic is now tailing back to St Budeaux. There is a 10 to 15-minute delay. There are no delays for eastbound traffic in the Tamar Bridge area

    Devon's Jo Pavey failed to defend her European Championship 10,000m title but did achieve the qualifying time for next month's Olympics in Rio.

    The 42-year-old finished in fifth spot in Amsterdam with a season's best 31 minutes 34 seconds.

    Pavey, who needed to finish in 32 minutes 15 seconds to qualify for Rio, has run at every Olympics since 2000. She finished sixth in the 10,000m at the British trials in May after struggling with a chest infection.

    Two funeral directors from Devon hope to use new technology to dispose of human bodies.

    At the moment, the only options are cremation or burial. But Claire and Rupert Callender, from Totnes, want to use new technology used in America -  alkaline hydrolysis. 

    At the end of the process, a white powder remains and so family members still have their loved ones' ashes. If they use the process, it's thought they'll be the first in the country.

    • In Cornwall, the B3298 near Scorrier is blocked near the junction with the A3047 due to an accident
    • On the A39 Penryn bypass, there are reports the Hillhead Roundabout is partially closed with a diversion in place

    Cornwall's coroner is to raise her concerns with Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt about sending mentally ill patients long distances for care.

    It comes after a suicide verdict on a man from St Austell, Cornwall being cared for 140 miles from home. 

    David Knight died after being hit by a train near St Austell after going on leave from a Somerset hospital. 

    The Department of Health said it was "unacceptable" that patients "are receiving care far from home".
