    Pupils at a Cornish primary school have mounted their own safety campaign to try to prevent parents from dropping off their children on the yellow zig-zag lines. 

    Twice a week the pupils patrol the road outside Stoke Climsland School and have written to their local MP, the police and the council to improve road safety.

    Cornwall Council says it's considering extending a scheme to have signs put up alongside the yellow zig-zags at every school in the county which would make it a criminal offence to park there.

    Researchers from the University of Exeter say they've discovered big seasonal differences in the way sound is carried underwater.

    They're trying to find out how whales, dolphins and other creatures are affected by shipping noise and new energy from wave devices which exploit the sea to provide electricity.

    Dr Jo Garrett is leading the research. She said: “Sound is very important for marine animals. Sound travels nearly five times faster in the water.”

    Jo Pavey will compete in a fifth Olympic Games after being selected to represent Team GB at the Rio Games.

    The 42-year-old, who will be the oldest British woman to run in an Olympic Games, achieved the 10,000m qualifying time at the European Championships in Amsterdam last week.

    'Super Saturday' gold medallists Jessica Ennis-Hill, 30, Mo Farah, 33, and Greg Rutherford, 29, are all in.

    A Labour donor from Cornwall is launching a legal challenge to the party's ruling that Jeremy Corbyn can be automatically included in the leadership ballot.

    Michael Foster, whose family gave £400,000 to the party, said he was worried about "apparent manipulation" of the rules by Labour's ruling body, the National Executive Committee (NEC).

    Mr Foster previously stood as a parliamentary candidate in Camborne, Redruth and Hayle.

    Sixth-form pupils in Devon are to lose their entitlement to school transport unless in exceptional circumstances.

    From September 2017 students will be expected to travel to school by car or public transport unless there are spare bus seats.

    Senior Devon councillors say the move will save a £250,000 a year. Parents have described the move as "shocking" and "unfair".

    A major archaeological dig is due to begin this summer at Tintagel in North Cornwall and last for five years.

    The first phase of excavations, which will take place between 18 July and 2 August, includes digging trenches in two previously unexcavated terrace areas of the island settlement.

    Cornwall Council, which is carrying out the research on behalf of English Heritage, said it hopes to find out more about how the people of Tintagel lived in the post-Roman period from 5th to 6th Century AD.

    Keepers searching for the missing lynx from Dartmoor Zoo believe they've pinpointed the territory it's using.

    Camera traps have been installed on nearby farmland in Sparkwell. If images from them confirm Flaviu's whereabouts, staff say there's every chance he'll soon be safely caught. 

    Police and zoo staff have been searching for Flaviu since she arrived at the zoo, and later escaped, on Wednesday 6 July.

    Devon and Cornwall police have been served with dozens of detailed questions about their procedures by the watchdog investigating whether to bring corporate manslaughter charges over the death of a church caretaker.

    Thomas Orchard, who had schizophrenia, died in October 2012 after being arrested in Exeter city centre. The Independent Police Complaints Commission has raised questions about the force's training, health and safety procedures and guidance issued to officers and police staff.
