    Police and Crime Commissioner Alison Hernandez is discussing with the chief constable "what resources can be made available for local policing and how those resources can be best deployed".

    It comes as large numbers of police officers in Devon and Cornwall believe cuts have left them struggling to investigate crime and keep the public safe, according to a survey.

    A spokesman for the commissioner said she is "committed to improving the connection Devon and Cornwall Police has with its communities".

    "Further discussions will take place in the coming weeks and their outcome will help form the centrepiece of the Police and Crime Plan, which is currently being developed by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner and the Force."

    The Brunel Camping Carriages site in Dawlish Warren, Devon, exceeded the guide price of £125,000 - £175,000.

    A sniffer dog swoop on students at a Devon college found no drugs.

    The police dog checked out students at the Petroc College Campus in Tiverton.

    Sgt Mike Warriner from Tiverton Neighbourhood Team said: "I was pleased to see that there were no drugs found, and would look again to work with the college and other educational sites to help safeguard and educate our local children about the dangers of becoming involved in drugs."

    Truro City boss Lee Hodges is hopeful that full-back Durrell Berry will join the National League South club in time for Saturday's game with Ebbsfleet.

    Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale says uncertainty surrounding his contract at the club is not affecting his players.

    The club's Supporters' Trust, who own the League Two side, passed a motion in October to try to renegotiate Tisdale's contract.

    "The players also know that I'm not going tomorrow," Tisdale said.

    "It's more of a strategy thing and there's a lot of water to pass under the bridge before it would come to that," he told BBC Sport.

    A man has been cleared of the manslaughter of a shanty group singer and the band's promoter.

    David Naylor, 57, director of Express Hi-Fold Doors Ltd, was acquitted of manslaughter by gross negligence.

    Fisherman's Friends vocalist Trevor Grills, 54, and Paul McMullen, 44, died when the steel door collapsed at G Live in Guildford on 9 February 2013.

    Mr Grills, from Port Isaac, Cornwall, and Mr McMullen, from Disley in Cheshire, were at the venue ahead of a performance due to be staged by the 10-piece group.

    Fire crews are tackling a blaze in a derelict building after reports of smoke coming from the roof.

    The two crews from St Austell Community Fire Station found the smoke coming from the first floor of the property and are using a hose reel and wearing breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire.

    That's Sarah Allum, who manages services at the NSPCC in the South West, talking about a rise in child abuse reports in Devon and Cornwall.

    Figures have doubled in the past four years from 774 to 1,504.

    Sarah said: "Now there are more places to go to talk about what has happened and adults are more willing to listen than they were in the past."

    Thieves have stolen a car park pay and display machine with £800 inside it.

    The machine was stolen from the Mill Road car park in Okehampton and will cost £3,500 to replace, said West Devon Borough Council.

    Councillor Robert Sampson, lead member for commercial services, said: "We are working closely with the police to trace and prosecute these criminals. We take such offences very seriously."

    Exeter prop Tomas Francis has been named among the replacements for Wales for their Test match with Australia on Saturday.

    The 24-year-old will win his 15th cap if he comes on at the Principality Stadium.

    The jury has cleared a company boss of manslaughter after a door he supplied collapsed killing two men from the Cornish shanty band Fisherman's Friends.

    Fisherman's Friends singer, Trevor Grills, 54, from Port Isaac, and the group's tour manager, Paul McMullan, 44, from Cheshire, died after being hit by a falling door at G Live music venue in Guildford on 9 February 2013.

    The steel door, which weighed more than two tonnes, collapsed without warning, striking both men.

    Mr McMullan died at the scene and Mr Grills a few days later in hospital.

    David Naylor, 57, from Bridgenorth in Shropshire was cleared of two counts of manslaughter and his company, Express Hi-Fold Doors, was found guilty of a health and safety breach.

    Sentencing is on Friday at Guildford Crown Court.

    Newquay's most senior police officer says he is pleased that two heroin addicts have been jailed for burglary following a crime spree over the summer. 

    Insp Dave Meredith says "Newquay is a far safer place with these two criminals behind bars".

    At Truro Crown Court, John Bentley, 38, was sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to a burglary that took place in the town on 6 September.

    He asked for six other burglaries, which took place between July and September to be taken into consideration.

    Jodine Harvey, 36, (pictured) was sentenced to 18 months after pleading guilty to a burglary, handling stolen goods and fraudulent use of a stolen bank card. She had seven other crimes taken into consideration.
