    What's thought to be the largest textile artwork by a single artist, is now on show at Exeter Cathedral.

    Fourteen fabric panels, created with more than 10 million stitches, have been made by local artist Jacqui Parkinson.

    The work shows images from Revelations, the last book in the Bible, which has such subjects as the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

    Exeter City and Plymouth Argyle both play their final Pool games in this year's revamped Football League Trophy, and both need wins to book their places in the knock out stages. 

    The Grecians are at home to Swindon, while the Pilgrims travel to the Liberty Stadium to take on Premier League Swansea's under-23s. 

    The competition has been much maligned, but Argyle midfielder David Fox insisted they were keen to progress.

    Plymouth's council leader says he's "very concerned" to see that an Army regiment remains in the city after the latest announcement of military base closures by the government.

    The Royal Citadel is home to 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery. The government said is was to close within 10 years as part of a Ministry of Defence plan to free up military sites for housing.

    Ian Bowyer, who leads the Conservative and UKIP coalition authority, said: "While we understand the need for the MoD to ensure its estate provides best value for the taxpayer, we will obviously be very concerned to see that 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery remains in Plymouth. We will be seeking urgent reassurances from the MoD and government ministers about this."

    Three care homes in Cornwall run by the same company are under investigation.

    Cornwall Council said it was working with NHS Kernow, the Care Quality Commission and the police over concerns relating to St Theresa's in Callington, Elmsleigh in Par and Collamere in Lostwithiel. 

    All three are run by the Morleigh Group, which has also closed its Clinton House in St Austell after safeguarding concerns were raised. It's hoped residents there - believed to be about 30 - will be moved to new homes by Christmas.

    The Morleigh Group said it was "fully co-operating" with investigations, and that it had closed the home "to allow better consolidation of the care services".

    A book of remembrance for people to share their memories of the Royal Clarence Hotel has opened at Exeter Guildhall.

    The hotel was demolished after being badly damaged by fire at the end of last month.

    Exeter Lord Mayor Cynthia Thompson said she was saddened by the fire but confident that it would be restored back to its former glory.

    The book will be available this week from 10:30 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 16:00 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, and from 14:00 until 16:00 on Thursday.

    Plans to bring in fortnightly bin collections and increase charges for things like parking and moorings will be voted on by senior Plymouth city councillors later.

    A controlled explosion has taken place at St Boniface's Catholic College in Plymouth this morning to dispose of a potentially dangerous chemical.

    Royal Navy bomb disposal experts carried out the explosion of chemical 2,4-DNPH just before 08:30.

    Schools across the country have been carrying out similar explosions after a warning that if not stored properly the substance can cause serious harm.

    A care home in Cornwall has been closed because of safeguarding concerns, and three more homes run by the same company are under investigation.

    Cornwall Council and NHS Kernow took what's being called the "unusual and serious" step of removing residents at the Clinton House nursing home in St Austell after allegations were made. It's hoped residents - believed to be about 30 - will be moved to new homes by Christmas.

    Owner the Morleigh Group said it closed the home "to allow better consolidation of the care services" and that it was "fully co-operating" with investigations.

    Losing a Royal Marines base and military airfield in north Devon could punch a £40m per year hole in the local economy, a councillor says.   

    The government has announced that RMB Chivenor is to close within the next 10 years as part of a Ministry of Defence plan to free up military sites for housing.

    The Royal Citadel in Plymouth, base for 29 Commando Royal Artillery, is also to shut. And it was announced earlier in the year that Plymouth's Stonehouse Barracks, headquarters of 3 Commando Brigade, was also being sold-off.

    Councillor Brian Greenslade said he has asked for an emergency Devon County Council debate this week to discuss the "devastating" announcement.
