Adults across Devon can learn a new skill for free in 2017 as part of a government research project looking at ways to improve mental health and well being.
Devon County Council’s adult education service, Learn Devon, is offering free leisure courses in subjects including arts and crafts.
It is part of an England-wide project which aims to evaluate educational approaches to support mental health.
The courses will be running at Learn Devon centres in Exmouth, Newton Abbot, Totnes, Tavistock and Bideford until July 2017, when the project ends.

Tommee Tippee said it has been "incredibly touched" by the story of 13-year-old Ben Carter who has only drunk from their double-handled cups since the age of two.
A spokesman said as the cup hadn't been produced for nearly 20 years, they initially struggled to find any archived product samples.
"We looked into the possibility of creating a special production run for Ben," a spokesman said.

"Production will start on 500 cups for Ben this week and will delivered to his dad, Marc, early in the new year.
"We're confident that this production run, combined with the cups that have been sent by truly amazing people from across the world, will make a real difference to Ben, and give him enough cups for the rest of his life."

Babcock International, which has dockyards at Devonport and Appledore, has welcomed a report that says Royal Navy shipbuilding should be shared among companies across the country.
A spokesman said: "The government's National Shipbuilding Strategy is likely to play a critical role in determining the shape of warship building across the UK for many years to come.
"Babcock welcomes the completion and publication of Sir John Parker's recommendations to the government on this strategy. We now need time to fully understand those findings."

A small family business in Devon is the first in recorded history to provide Downing Street with both its main indoor and outdoor Christmas tree and its wreath.
Dartmoor Christmas trees will be providing the tree for the billiard room; an 18ft tree for outside the PM's front door and the wreath to go on the door of number 10.
Today the trees are being cut down before being transported.

Officers from the Devon and Cornwall Police roads policing team are out again this week in unmarked cars targeting motorists who flout traffic laws, in an effort to help keep our roads safe.
A car driver was seen joining the A30 from the M5 at junction 29.

The car has been seized and if collected will need to be put on a trailer due to having illegal tyres.

Devon County Council has scooped a number of awards at this year's Social Worker of the Year Awards, placing it among the highest achieving authorities.
A total of 78 social workers and social work teams from across England were selected as finalists across 15 different categories.

Marc Carter, 42, said the response from well-wishers for his appeal for blue Tommee Tippee cups had been "incredible", and said it was a "huge surprise" to be contacted by the manufacturer.

Mr Carter, from Devon, told the BBC his son has had his current blue cup for three years, but it is now falling apart and may only last a few more weeks. He said: "This tiny blue cup dictates our life."

Jon Rudd, who was instrumental in building the success of Plymouth Leander swimming club, has been appointed as Swim Ireland's performance director.
He worked as head coach of the senior Great Britain and England teams in recent years, will spearhead Ireland's preparations for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

Eighty-nine-year-old Joe Bartley was so bored being retired he put an ad in his local paper asking for work.
And it turned out his ad was just the job because he's had two offers already.
Ex-serviceman Joe, from Paignton, said he started getting really bored after his wife died two years ago.
"I was bored to death sat here doing nothing not seeing anyone. I used to go to Paignton to do the shopping and to waste the day away.
"Bored stiff, absolutely bored."

Police stopped a motorbike on Friday doing a recorded speed of 142 mph on the A38 near the Deep Lane junction, near Plympton.
Excess speed continues to be a problem, police say, with a number of motorists stopped in the last few weeks for driving at speeds in excess of 95mph.
Roads Policing Inspector Pete Thomas said: "There is no excuse for travelling at such ridiculous speeds. Public highways are not a racetrack.
"This behaviour is reckless and puts other road users and themselves at risk."

An experienced pilot was tired when he crashed his plane at Cornwall Airport Newquay, an inquest has heard.
Tony Richards, 68, had purchased the twin engine Piper six days earlier and flown it back from the Czech Republic earlier on the day of the crash, 17 August 2015.

The inquest heard how he told air traffic control he'd 'had a long day' and had the sun in his eyes approaching Newquay airport.
He attempted to lift after a failed landing, but the plane lost speed causing it to fall from 150ft (45.7m).
The jury concluded the death was an accident caused by impaired judgement due to tiredness and an unfamiliar aircraft.

People campaigning for a lower speed limit on the A374 between Trerulefoot and Torpoint say they're frustrated to have missed out on government funding for dangerous roads.
Yesterday the government announced cash to upgrade two stretches of road in Cornwall where it deemed the risk of fatal and serious collisions to be highest.

Police are growing increasingly concerned for the welfare of Brian Pryce, aged 47 who has gone missing.
Mr Pryce, who lives in St Thomas, Exeter, hasn't been heard from for almost a week and police are appealing to the public to help them locate him.

Bored pensioner Joe Bartley has been offered two jobs after putting an ad in his local paper, the Torquay Herald Express, asking for work.
Joe, 89, from Paignton, said he was "bored out of my mind" after his wife died two years ago.
The former serviceman and sign writer has been offered work by a local cafe owner and Tesco.
He said: "I had a couple of other offers including for painting and decorating but I can't climb up ladders any more."

Truro Cathedral has been awarded £500,000 towards a new roof.
The money from the First World War Centenary Cathedral Repairs Fund will be used to repair the south aisle and baptistry roof.
Grants totalling £5,423,000 have been awarded to 24 Church of England and Catholic cathedrals for repairs including to stained glass windows, stone pinnacles, and roofs as well as drainage and lighting.
