    Police in Camborne have confirmed they are investigating a crime report after a number of suspected cat poisonings in the area.

    The police investigation comes after the Monument Vets practice in Redruth said on Facebook, external at the end of last week that it had seen "possible poisonings in multiple cats in the Beacon area of Camborne/Redruth".

    The vets said that the symptoms had been consistent "with antifreeze exposure" and that "sadly some cats have passed away with this and some are missing".

    The scrutiny committee at Cornwall Council has decided to send the £500,000 bid for the title of European Capital of Culture back to the cabinet for "reconsideration" according to one councillor.

    Police warning people in mid-Devon to be vigilant after a distraction burglary say there may be several victims of such crimes.

    An elderly woman in the Tiverton area had £100 stolen from her purse by an unknown female visitor last Friday. 

    Constable Tom Coulston, of Devon and Cornwall Police, said: "Experience has taught us that this will usually be part of a wider number of similar incidents in localised areas." 

    He added that householders should be "wary of people who you do not know calling at your home address unannounced", they should not let anyone they don't know into their home and people in the communities should "look out for each other".

    Indecent images and videos of children viewed and distributed by a paediatrician were "at the most serious end of the scale" - Category A - and "incredibly upsetting and challenging" for police to investigate, a senior officer says, external.

    Forty-seven-year-old Jonathan Walsh (pictured), who used to live in Barnstaple and now lives in Lancashire, has admitted seven charges of making indecent images and 10 charges of distributing indecent images during a hearing at Exeter Crown Court.

    The doctor, who previously worked at North Devon District Hospital, was sacked when he was charged. None of the images related to children in his care. He is due to be sentenced at a later date.

    Det Insp Andrea Kingdon, of the Devon and Cornwall Police Child Exploitation Unit, said Walsh "let himself and his profession down by his activities which he went to great lengths to hide".

    Offensive graffiti at the University of Exeter, including a swastika carved on a door with a "Rights for Whites" sign in a hall of residence, has been described as "concerning" by the Union of Jewish Students.

    The university said it was investigating, but said the graffiti may have been an "ill-judged" joke. It has been removed.

    Last September there was an investigation after students wore T-shirts featuring racist and anti-Semitic slogans to a pub crawl hosted by the university's Snowsports society.

    The Union of Jewish Students said the latest incident - and "abhorrent suggestion" - came in the "same academic year as the phrase 'The Holocaust was a good time' was scrawled on a shirt at a University of Exeter society's event last September".

    "We hope that this incident is treated with equal gravity," the union said.

    A car parking price list being blocked by the payment machines in Exeter has been described as a "boo-boo".

    An information board in Magdalen Street Car Park is so low it is behind the machines. It also blocks the terms and conditions.

    One man trying to use the machine said: "Before the prices were on the top and anyone could see them. Now it's very very difficult and I'm afraid the council has made a bit of a boo-boo here."

    Exeter City Council said it was getting contractors to make the board visible.

    Fire crews have remained overnight at the scene of a fire which saw a pub's thatch roof catch alight.

    Firefighters from across Devon and Cornwall were called to the blaze after the Bell Inn in Parkham, near Bideford, caught fire on Monday morning.

    The fire service said firefighters had been "making steady progress" through Tuesday morning, using drag forks and hose reel jets to get it under control.

    Rectory Lane remains closed at Barton Road due to the fire.

    A paediatrician who previously worked at North Devon District Hospital has pleaded guilty to 17 charges relating to indecent images of children.

    Forty-seven-year-old Jonathan James Walsh (pictured), who used to live in Barnstaple and now lives in Lancashire, admitted seven charges of making indecent images and 10 charges of distributing indecent images during a hearing at Exeter Crown Court.

    Dr Walsh, who was sacked from the hospital when charged, is due to will be sentenced at a later date.

    None of the images related to children in his care.

    Torbay Council made more than £50,000 from people overpaying in its car parks in a year. 

    The council revealed it took £50,827.45 - on average nearly a £140 a day - between 2014-15, and that doesn't include overpayments for on-street machines. 

    The council said it used the money to support public transport and other highway-related activity.

    A Cornwall Council decision to invest more than £500,000 to launch a bid to become the European Union Capital of Culture in 2023 is being debated at County Hall. 

    Critics said it was a waste of money as they were not convinced the authority could make it through to the next stage of the process. But supporters said they thought that, if successful, the process would bring huge economic advantages. 

    The council's Scrutiny Committee is examining the previous decision by Cornwall Council's cabinet to allocate the money.

    A 58-year-old woman has been arrested after a car was driven the wrong away down the A30 in Cornwall, police say.

    The car was reported heading west on the eastbound route of the dual carriageway between Chiverton Cross and Camborne.

    Officers said the vehicle was stopped near the Camborne West junction in a "box manoeuvre", which saw police vehicles block in, slow down and lead the car to the side of the road, at about 09:35.

    Witnesses had told the BBC earlier that a car appeared to flip over and end up on its roof. However, police said there "was a near miss with another car that did spin. The vehicle had to take avoiding action but [there was] no collision." 

    Police said a 58-year-old woman from the St Merryn area, near Padstow, was taken into custody.

    National Rail Enquiries says, external train services are expected to be disrupted between Barnstaple and Exeter St Davids until 12:00.

    The information service said signalling problems could result in delays or cancellations.

    Meanwhile, CrossCountry services between Exeter St Davids and Plymouth are now running normally after weather problems caused disruption yesterday and this morning.

    A car thought to be travelling the wrong way on the A30 appears to have flipped over and ended up on its roof, witnesses have told the BBC.     

    Police had to establish a rolling roadblock on the dual carriageway after a car was spotted heading west on the eastbound route between Chiverton Cross and Camborne.
