Don’t worry this is not a tale of dog cannibalism, or even cannibalism of another dog’s tail.

Unwell nine-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Cyril, was rushed to Plymouth PDSA Pet Hospital.

After Lesley Mellor’s beloved pet became ill, it was discovered he’d swallowed a Clarabel toy – the famous Thomas the Tank Engine character.

The distinctly under-chewed "chew-chew train" was promptly removed during surgery by vet David Jones.

Cyril, from Torpoint, quickly recovered and was well enough to return home the next day, the vets said.
