    The Cornish Pirates' British & Irish Cup quarter-final tie in Jersey tonight could be in doubt, with flights to the Channel Island on hold due to poor weather conditions.

    Pirates are due to fly to Jersey from Exeter, with kick-off due at 19:45.

    BBC Radio Cornwall, which is providing live coverage of the match, will be keeping an eye on the weather situation. There will be weather updates here on Local Live through the day.

    The former boss of Torbay Hospital is due to be sentenced at Exeter Crown Court later after previously admitting fraudulently paying her husband money from her NHS budget.

    Paula Vasco-Knight pleaded guilty last month to siphoning off £11,000 to her husband, Stephen, for work he never did. Her husband also admitted fraud.

    The 53-year-old was warned at a previous court hearing  she could face jail over the swindle.

    The carcass of a whale that was on rocks in North Devon yesterday has been carried to a beach on the high tide overnight.

    Donal Stafford, from the Hartland Quay Hotel, said the creature "has moved a couple of hundred metres to the north and is now on the main beach".

    He said people were being advised not to get too close to the whale on Hartland Quay beach.

    A head-hunter will be used to try and cure the crisis over the long-term future of the only care home on the Isles of Scilly. 

    A failure to recruit full-time senior staff, including a manager, has put Park House on St Mary's in jeopardy.

    Watchdog the Care Quality Commission doesn't like a care home to be run by agency staff for any length of time, but it said it recognised there were special difficulties persuading people to move from the British mainland.

    A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man died in a flat, police say, external

    Police and an ambulance were called to a home in Town Mills Close in Launceston yesterday afternoon after reports a man had died. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

    Officers are carrying out house-to-house inquiries. Neither man has been named by police.

  10. Devon tops list for bridges unfit for lorriespublished at 08:09

    Devon County Council has the highest number of substandard bridges in England

    A study led by the RAC Foundation has found there are 249 bridges maintained by the council that are not fit to support the heaviest lorries.

    Nationally, they found more than 2,500 substandard structures. Cornwall Council was fifth on the list with 127.

    RAC Foundation director Steve Gooding said: "In the face of growing traffic volumes, and ageing infrastructure, the danger is that, without an adequate long-term funding settlement, we will see more rather than fewer bridges with weight restrictions, with the backlog bill getting bigger all the time."
