    Devon and Cornwall Police is among 12 forces nationwide to ask the Crown Prosecution Service to consider charges over general election expenses.  

    The inquiry into the Conservative Party's battle bus campaign in 2015 has examined whether strict spending limits in target seats were breached. 

    The CPS says all of the files are under consideration and it will decide in due course whether anyone will be charged.

    As the  conviction of Sgt Alexander Blackman  for shooting an injured Afghan fighter in 2011 is reduced from murder to manslaughter on the grounds of his mental illness, Royal Marines who fought alongside him have spoken for the first time - offering new insights into the killing.  

    BBC Panorama has spoken to several of the men who were with the former Plymouth-based Sgt Blackman on the day he shot dead an injured Taliban fighter.

    Neighbours on an estate in Cornwall believe a massive electrical power surge caused a devastating fire at two properties. 

    Smoke was seen coming from houses at St Day near Redruth at the same time as numerous electrical faults were reported in nearby homes. 

    Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service has told the BBC the most likely cause is electrical. Western Power Distribution says investigations are still under way into the cause of the fire and it's appointed loss adjusters to assess any damage.

    Health bosses have refused to overturn a decision to temporarily close beds at a Devon hospital.  

    At a packed public meeting last night about 500 people quizzed managers on the future of Holsworthy Community Hospital. 

    Campaigners fear the current temporary bed closures could become permanent. 

    Managers say the beds had to be closed because of staff shortages and dwindling demand. They say they are looking at all options.

    Cornwall Council is expected to approve changes today in the way it runs highways to prevent another landslide in Looe. 

    Four years ago a woman died when her flat in the town was engulfed by tonnes of earth. 

    An inquest last November into Susan Norman's death found the council failed to recognise the "immediate risk of death". 

    At the time the council said lessons would be learnt. Today members of the cabinet will be asked to approve a list of six reforms including the creation of a new contract between the council and Cormac - which carries out work on behalf of the authority.

    Local authorities in the South West are to share more than £90m from the government to help pay for adult social care over the next three years.

    It's part of the £2bn of additional funding announced in the Budget. Critics have said while the money is welcome it's not enough. Bosses will meet MPs to get more details on exactly what the money can be spent on. 

    Devon is getting more than £30m, Cornwall - just under £24m, Somerset more than £21m and Dorset more than £15m.
