    A 39-year-old man had to be rescued from the River Tamar after jumping into the water from a boat last night.

    The man, who police believe had been drinking, climbed aboard a boat not far from the Tamar Bridge at about 18:15.

    At 19:45 he jumped into the water, but was only in for a couple of minutes before the MoD police boat rescued him, and took him to the Saltash shore.

    He was taken to Derriford Hospital to check for hypothermia, and to test if he had taken any drugs.
