    Don't feed the seagulls and cover up your bagged waste - that's the advice from North Devon District Council following a rise in reported problems with the birds in the area. 

    The council says the birds are in their nesting season and are looking for extra food to rear their young. 

    It says people carrying shopping bags and snacks are an easy target for the hungry gulls, and bags of rubbish and litter bins make for easy pickings.

    Ambitious plans to open a commercial spaceport in Cornwall are being formally submitted to the government this week.

    Cornwall Airport Newquay is one of five sites shortlisted for a £10m project to develop plans to launch satellites and offer space tourism.

    One of Newquay's advantages is its partnership with Goonhilly Earth Station - a major satellite communications hub with links to NASA and the European Space Agency.

    The roads are all looking clear this morning, but there are a few roadworks to be aware of:

    • In Plymouth on the A386 Tavistock Road between Budshead Road and the Derriford Roundabout. Expect delays through the roadworks
    • In Exeter on the A379 Bridge Road there's road widening work between the Countess Wear Roundabout and the Matford Roundabout
    • On the A30, one lane is closed westbound between the Liftondown turn off and the Callington turn off
    • On the A39 between Arch Hill and Playing Place there are temporary traffic lights due to roadworks. Expect slow traffic

    A grandmother convicted of killing two women after she "dozed" off at the wheel of her car is expected to be sentenced later.

    Teresa Sant, 58, was found guilty of causing the deaths by dangerous driving of the friends in Plymouth last May.

    The city's crown court heard she ploughed into Victoria Hodge, 42, and Marie-Helene Gieblen, 60, in a car she had bought just four days earlier.

    The victims had got off a bus in Torr Lane and were saying their goodbyes when they were killed.

    Plymouth Crown Court heard that Sant had told police she had dozed off at the wheel before. Once on a trip while with her husband and at other times when waiting at traffic lights. However, she had not told her GP or the DVLA about these episodes.
