    Cornwall has a "good chance" of hosting the qualifying heats for skateboarding in the Tokyo Olympics, a skate park manager says.

    Mount Hawke Skate Park has launched a bid to host the heats after the sport was one of five new events added to the Olympics for 2020.

    The wife of a firefighter who helped battle the blaze at Grenfell Towers says the offer of a free holiday "means the world" to them.

    Nearly 400 holidays across the UK and abroad have been offered on a Facebook group set up by two women from Ilfracombe.

    The wife, who has chosen to remain anonymous, says the fire was the most horrific job of her husband's career and has left him "utterly broken".

    The family will spend a week in a cottage in Marsden, Yorkshire, thanks to the generosity of the public.

    New songs have been written to commemorate the efforts of Devon's Home Front during the Great War.

    Local choirs and musicians have been working with the charity Wren Music to create the new material, which is inspired by stories of what life was like for those left behind during World War One.

    It's part of the Devon Remembers Heritage Project.

    The songs are being performed at three concerts called "Blackberries and Bandages".

    Marilyn Tucker is from Wren Music and says people's emotions have been "stirred".

    "There have been times in the concerts that we've done, sometimes the audience just gasps because there's been a light bulb moment because they've realised something about Devon and the first World War," she said.

    A tag attached to a shark four years ago off the coast of Spain has been found washed up on a Cornish beach.

    Marine Biologists say the data it can provide is a "dream come true".

    The tag was found on Cape Cornwall and handed to the Cornwall Wildlife Trust who used a phone number printed on the side to start their investigation.

    They found it was attached to a deep water shark in 2013 by marine biologists in Spain and programmed to detach 90 days later.

    Now four years later it's found its way to Cornwall and experts say much more of the information it collected can now be downloaded.

    The funeral has been held of one of three men killed in a crash on the A38 near Plymouth last month.

    The men, aged 20, 23 and 24 died on 5 June when the van they were in crashed on the Plymouth-bound carriageway about a mile before the Marsh Mills roundabout. No other vehicles were involved

  11. Beaver watchers 'should leave dogs at home'published at 15:48 British Summer Time 5 July 2017

    East Devon District Council has warned dog owners to stay away from areas where beavers live, after a dog was attacked at Otterton.

    The authority said: "East Devon is very lucky to have a wild beaver population establishing and these animals clearly need to be protected from attack by dogs, as much as the dogs need to be protected from the beavers.

    "We would recommend that members of the public going quietly to watch the beavers do not take their dogs with them to the areas in which they are most active, particularly at this time of the year.”

    A two-year-old boy has been seriously injured in a crash in Cornwall.

    Emergency services were called to the collision on the A390 at Callington about midday involving a Peugeot Boxer van and a Peugeot 206 car.

    Devon and Cornwall Police, external said the toddler sustained a potentially life-threatening head injury and was airlifted to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

    It's thought the boy and his family will be transferred to hospital in Bristol.

    The road is closed in both directions for collision investigation work and police are appealing for witnesses.

    Devon and Cornwall Police says it welcomes an official report which warns victims across England and Wales of stalking and harassment they're at risk because of failings by the police and prosecutors.

    The report by Her Majesty's Inspector of Constabulary found crimes weren't being recorded, investigations were poorly conducted and legal protection wasn't offered to enough victims.

    It follows a police apology to Helen Pearson (below) from Exeter, who was stabbed by her stalker, and had made 125 reports to officers.
