    The boss of a coach company claims soaring costs after the Brexit vote are to blame for the cancellation of holiday trips.

    Hamiltons Coach Travel in St Austell told customers their River Danube excursion and a separate trip to Spain would not go ahead.

    Boss David Hamilton wrote to clients listing a number of reasons including the breakdown of his marriage, "the Brexit vote" causing his bill "to increase abroad by over 22% overnight" and having "no way of recovering the loss".

    Mr Hamilton also says he was let down by an agent, and bookings are down because of the fear of terror attacks.

    He says he is "in the process of refunding the money".

    A shop assistant was threatened with a knife at the McColls shop on Costly Street and was made to open the till and hand over a quantity of cash.

    Detectives have been reviewing CCTV footage.

    Commodore Rob Bellfield is the new Commander Devonport Flotilla.

    He replaces Commodore Paul Halton who goes on to a new post.

    Commodore Bellfield is a former commanding officer of the training establishment HMS Raleigh and captain of three frigates.

    More smokers are packing in the habit in Cornwall but there are still about 80,000 who are refusing to quit.

    Ten years ago 21% of people in Cornwall smoked, but this has now fallen to 15.7% according to research by the University College of London (UCL).

    The report has been released as Cornwall Council and Public Health England launch the Stoptober quit smoking campaign.

    Robert West, Professor of Health Psychology at UCL said: "Quitting success rates this year are soaring. The advances and wider choice in effective quitting options, and stronger anti-smoking culture are fuelling this acceleration."

    A new set of walks taking in interesting trees is launched in Torbay today.

    The so-called I-Tree Trail , externalis a project between the local council, NHS and a forestry enterprise.

    People can follow tree trails in Brixham, Paignton and Torquay.

    The idea is to get people out taking exercise and also to help them learn about the value of trees in the urban environment.

    Shelterbox says one of its teams is making its way to the island of Dominica which has seen massive devastation from Hurricane Maria.

    The charity says communications with the island have been hampered by the hurricane.

    It says the hurricane season was predicted to be severe, but the current frequency and ferocity of storms is "unprecedented".

    Paigton Zoo say staff are "saddened" by having to cull a herd of antelopes after one of the zoo's animals died in May from bovine TB.

    A post-mortem examination on the dead lechwe antelope tested positive for bovine TB according to the zoo which has culled 10 of the animals.

    "This is a notifiable disease and by law has to be reported to the government, who have legal powers to enforce action to control its spread," said the zoo.

    It is now working with government agencies to prevent the spread of the disease.

    "I stuck out like a sore thumb in a comprehensive school of more than 2,000 students all called Sarah or Emma, when I just wanted to fit in," said Mabel.

    "Due to the dog on Blue Peter being called Mabel and Auntie Mabel on Come Outside, I was mocked.

    "Some people still ask if I like knitting today and some laugh when they meet me first time, expecting an old lady.

    "People from the older generations often comment on it because they have relatives with the name. It's now a great conversation starter and I get to hear lots of lovely stories about peoples families.

    "I think the name suits me more now because I've become a little traditional with my interests as I've matured. It turns out I do enjoy wool crafts. Whether that's because I'm conforming to the stereotype or not, I don't know."

    Taxpayers who wrongly claim they live alone and get a council tax discount are being targeted in East Devon.

    Checks are beginning this month to ensure that the 21,000 East Devon householders who currently claim a 25% , externaldiscount for living alone are still entitled to it.

    Councillor Ian Thomas, portfolio holder for finance, said "anyone genuinely claiming a reduction should not be concerned".

    "However, if you are found to be deliberately misleading the council, you could face a penalty of £70, as well as having to repay the discount," he added.

    Paignton Zoo has put down a small herd of antelopes after an outbreak of bovine TB.

    Ten Kafue Flats lechwe, two male and eight female, were put down after the first confirmed case of bovine TB at the zoo.

    Staff are working with Defra to prevent it spreading to other animals including installing fencing to stop badgers from carrying the disease, the zoo said.

    Executive director Simon Tonge: "Wild animals in zoological collections can suffer the same fate as livestock on farms.

    "The most important thing is to take appropriate action to make sure more animals in the collection are not infected."

    There is no increased risk to visitors and the risk to staff is "minimal" said the zoo.

    Plymouth-based HMS Ocean is carrying trucks, food, temporary shelters, building materials and toys to the hurricane-hit Caribbean.

    It's expected to reach the region at the end of the week, along with an on-board team of sailors and air crews from RNAS Culdrose-based 820 Naval Air Squadron (NAS).

    Having operated in Africa for the Ebola crisis, 820 NAS already has experience operating from a ship at sea to help with disaster relief efforts.

    Undercover police officers on bicycles led to three drivers being fined for using mobile phones in Exeter.

    Five other drivers were given warnings on passing too close to cyclists after the patrol on Wednesday around the busy Cowley Bridge Road.

    It was part of Operation Close Pass which is aimed at making the roads safer for cyclists.

    Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council Cabinet Member with responsibility for cycling, said: "We want everyone to share our roads and shared paths safely, be patient and show consideration for each other."
