The fire which ripped through Exeter's Royal Clarence Hotel cost Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service a quarter of a million pounds.

A new report, external says the cause of the blaze at England's oldest hotel will never be known.

It also found the construction in buildings of such substantial age, even with the most attentive fire prevention and protection measures, cannot always guarantee a fire will be prevented from causing destruction.

The incident spanned over ten days last year after starting on 28 October.

    BBC Radio Cornwall

Previously, only children aged between two and eight were able to access the vaccine - in the form of a nasal spray - free of charge.

Health officials are concerned about the relatively low take-up rate of the flu vaccine among children, with only half of four to eight year olds in the South West taking up the offer of the free service last year.

Experts say flu can be more dangerous for children and vaccinating young people indirectly protects the rest of the population.

    Hamish Marshall
    BBC Spotlight

A full internal fire investigation into the cause of the blaze which destroyed the Royal Clarence Hotel in Exeter, was not able to be completed because of the collapse of the building.

A new report from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service says the cause of the fire, which raged for three days, will never be known.

About 100 firefighters were on the scene at the height of the fire which started early on 28 October last year.

The fire service believe the fire spread through voids and spaces created by the age, material and proximity of the buildings on Cathedral green.

    BBC Wales News

The adoptive father from Delabole, Cornwall, found guilty of murdering his 18-month-old baby, called 999 three months before her death after she'd fallen down the stairs.

But a doctor who examined Elsie after her death said his account was inconsistent with her injuries.

On 25 May 2016, Scully-Hicks was on the phone to the emergency services again.

This time he said he had changed Elsie's nappy in the living room, left the room before returning minutes later to find her unresponsive on the floor.

He told the court: "I got closer and called her, there was no response. I got down and gave her a gentle tap and there was no response at all so I picked up the phone and called for an ambulance."

Elsie died at the University Hospital of Wales, in Cardiff, on 29 May 2016 after doctors determined she could not be saved and her ventilator was switched off.

    BBC Wales News

Matthew Scully-Hicks, 31, of Delabole, Cornwall, has been found guilty of murdering his 18-month-old adopted daughter, Elsie.

The court heard Scully-Hicks remained emotionless as the jury gave its unanimous verdict and did not suffer from a psychiatric illness or personality disorder.

Baby Elsie died after suffering a "blunt head injury" which triggered a cardiac arrest and starved her organs of blood.

A pathologist said the injuries she sustained were "very typical" of a shaken baby.
