    A former senior naval officer has been found guilty of a string of historical sexual offences.

    Charles Howeson, 68, from Plymouth was convicted of 10 counts of indecent assault against men at Bristol Crown Court.

    The jury could not reach a verdict on two other counts.

    Torquay United manager Gary Owers says his side are in a positive frame of mind heading into the busy Christmas period, despite their poor performance last week.

    The Gulls were thrashed 4-0 at home by Maidstone United in the FA Trophy and face Eastleigh on Boxing Day in the National League, with the clubs still five points from safety.

    "We've just had our best run of points, if we maintain that run of form until the end of the season we'll get out of trouble," he told BBC Sport.

    "I'm trying to be positive, it was a long weekend and all everybody wanted to do was get out on the training ground on Monday morning and start afresh, and we've done that so we're trying to prepare now for the Christmas games."

    Officers from Devon and Cornwall Police are at the scene of a lorry crash in North Cornwall.

    A house has been severely damaged after a lorry crashed into the property near St Teath earlier.

    Four fire crews have attended, and an engineer from Western Power Distribution has dealt with a power cable that was knocked over in the crash.

    Michael Gove, Secretary of State for the Environment has been in Devon visiting a project to reintroduce beavers on the River Otter.

    Beavers were hunted to extinction in England and Wales during the 12th Century, but a family of wild beavers was spotted in 2014.

    The Devon Wildlife Trust was granted a five-year licence by Natural England in January 2015 to manage a beaver reintroduction pilot.

    Cornish Pirates coach Gavin Cattle says Friday's televised game with Bristol gives his players a chance to show how good they are to a wider audience.

    The clash at Ashton Gate sees sixth-placed Pirates face the unbeaten league leaders, who are looking for their 12th Championship successive victory.

    "It gives our guys a chance to shine in front of the TV cameras again and go and have a go," Cattle told BBC Radio Cornwall.

    "You always say to players that the TV cameras shouldn't matter, but ultimately you're on show.

    "I know a lot of our guys are looking to make the jump to the next level, and a lot of them are capable of that, and these games are where you can cement a reputation, a lot of them have done it off camera and don't get that renegotiation sometimes."

    The one-time Pop Idol winner is reading at a charity carol concert. The event is raising money for the Shires Holt Horse Sanctuary near his home on Bodmin Moor.

    Will says when he bought his house 12 years ago he had no idea how harsh the conditions can be for wild ponies: "I see people on the moor all the time. Tourists coming taking pictures, enjoying picnics and delighting in Cornish ponies, and yet they don't know, and I didn't know, about how tough the conditions are for them on the moor."

    A structural engineer from Cornwall Council is to check a building that has been severely damaged after a lorry crashed into it this morning.

    It happened in China Down, near St Teath in North Cornwall.

    Cornwall Fire and Rescue service said one person was reported trapped, but had been freed by the time they arrived.

    Crews from Delabole, Adebbridge and Bodmin attended the crash which also caused a power cable to be knocked down.

    An engineer from Western Power Distribution has made the power cable safe.

    A lorry has crashed into a building in St Teath near Camelford.

    Fire crews said people were trapped following the crash which happened just after 0800 - but they have since been released.

    Wadebridge fire station tweeted that the lorry was involved in a collison with a minibus before crashing into the building.

    Carers fear they won't get the support they need in the new year after a day centre for adults with disabilities is set to close later.

    People who use the centre at Rockville House, Plymstock, are looking for an alternative site they can use.

    Independence South West, the trust which runs the centre, says it's liaising with families, and the city council is trying to find alternatives.

    Lee Giles uses the centre and is cared for at home by his parents. His father Brian said: "A day centre fulfills Lee's needs to meet people and make friends. It also allows us to socialise out of the house and get jobs done."

    Police are looking for a man who has been missing from Stoke Fleming near Dartmouth since Sunday.

    Robert Gibbs, 56, is believed to be driving a brown Renault Scenic.

    He is 5ft 11ins tall, and was last seen wearing a black coat and black Animal hat, khaki green T-shirt, jeans and blue trainers.

    Children at Cornwall's Little Harbour Hospice got an early Santa surprise when presents were delivered this week.

    Five families will spend the Christmas period at the centre in St Austell.

    Nikki Isbell, from the hospice, said: "Before coming in for the first time you think it's going to be quite clinical, but it's not, it's very homely.

    "It's like a big house, it's like a big family, everyone sits down together to eat including the staff. It's just a brilliant atmosphere all the time."
