    All but one of the schools in Devon and Cornwall that responded to a BBC survey say they've had to make cuts to at least one creative arts subject.

    Thirty-five secondaries in the two counties took part in the research.

    The reasons given for the reduction in provision included a lack of funding and pressures to reach government targets on traditional academic subjects.

    Drama class

    The research was arranged by the Education Policy Institute (EPI).

    A Department for Education spokesperson said: "The arts are a crucial component of a broad and balanced curriculum, and we will continue to direct funding to ensure arts and music remain available to all pupils.

    "Our current research contradicts the EPI and has found there has been broad stability between pupils taking GCSEs in EBacc subjects and the arts. There is a correlation between schools increasing their EBacc entry and an increase in the uptake of arts subjects."

    Meanwhile head teachers from 5,500 schools across England have signed a joint letter to Chancellor Philip Hammond warning of "chronic" funding shortages.

    The heads are warning of budget gaps and unequal funding - saying schools would have an extra £5.5bn if they were funded at the same level as Hackney in London.

    This is the latest stage in a campaign by head teachers, in 32 counties from Cornwall to Cumbria, pressing for higher funding for schools and a fairer distribution.

    The government has promised to move £1.3bn extra into school budgets.

    Instow in north Devon could be the first beach in Britain to be de-designated because of its failure to meet bathing water standards.

    Instow beach has failed tests over many years.

    Defra has been consulting with the local community about whether the beach should be taken off the list of bathing waters completely.

    It said it was "unlikely that the water quality of this bathing water can be improved".

    A dog has suffered burns after a tumble dryer fire, firefighters have said., external

    It happened in the utility annex of a property in Ottery St Mary at about 14:00.

    Fire had "spread to the roof space" and it was left "70% damaged by fire and smoke", Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said.

    It said a man suffered "slight smoke inhalation" and a dog suffering burns was taken to the vet by its owner.

    A 40-year-old man has gone missing from Ilfracombe, police have said.

    It's believed that Gary Hull may be in the Exeter area.

    He's described as white, 5ft 4in tall, and of slim build. He has short dark brown hair, blue eyes, and may have a goatee.

    Devon and Cornwall Police say they're concerned for Gary’s welfare and need to locate him.

    The secretary of the Devon County Show is to step down, bosses have announced.

    Ollie Allen has been a mainstay of the county's agricultural showcase for more than 20 years, joining in 1996.

    Organisers said she had "played a central role in its evolution and success ever since".

    This year's show will be her last.

    Organisers said: "While we will miss her inspiring leadership, we wish to thank her for the last 21 years at the helm of the Devon County Show, and wish her the best of luck in the future."
