  15. Radiotherapy move plans 'not in interests of patients'published at 08:18 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2018

    BBC Radio Cornwall

Proposals to move some radiotherapy cancer services out of Cornwall would not be in the interests of patients, according to the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust.

It has issued a statement saying it was fully committed to the continued provision of world class radiotherapy for all cancer patients in the county.

NHS England has proposals to move some cancer services away from the Royal Cornwall Hospital at Treliske to Plymouth or Exeter.

Under the plans, the Sunrise Centre at Treliske would only be able to treat less common and rarer cancers if it met minimum case numbers of more than 50 a year.

The trust said it feared travel times and expenses would be detrimental, there was no evidence outcomes would be improved, and doctors in other centres would not be familiar with patient records.
